CD Projekt's New IP, Project Hadar, Gets Extremely Vague Tease via Job Ad
CD Projekt is currently focused on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, but it's also working on a brand new intellectual property (IP) known as Project Hadar. While Hadar remains an enigmatic project, a recent job ad has offered a cryptic glimpse into what the game might entail — and, given CD Projekt’s track record, it's no surprise that the details are intentionally sparse.
As noted by GamesRadar, the job posting for Project Hadar seeks an engineering director to help “push the envelope for the next, immersive game in the Hadar world, creating an emotional, open-world experience that will stay with gamers.” This brief description suggests that Project Hadar could be the next major franchise for CD Projekt, joining The Witcher and Cyberpunk in the company's portfolio. Considering the success of these series, the ambition is clearly high — but not impossible for a company with such a strong reputation in the gaming industry.
Despite the excitement, Project Hadar is still in its early stages. According to reports, the project is currently in the "early pre-development" phase, which means it could still be years before the game is released. The foundation of the new setting was in a creative exploration stage just a few years ago, and now the company is only beginning to outline the basic framework of the game.
- The genre of Project Hadar remains unclear: is it a fantasy title, a sci-fi game, or something set in a modern world?
- Is it a purely single-player experience, or will it include multiplayer elements?
- These questions remain unanswered, and CD Projekt has not provided any concrete details.
From a staffing perspective, Project Hadar is still a relatively small project within CD Projekt. According to the company’s latest financial report, only 24 people are currently working on the new IP. In contrast, The Witcher 4 has a team of 513, Cyberpunk 2 has 163, and Sirius, the multiplayer-focused game set in the Witcher universe, has 83 members on its team. This highlights the fact that Project Hadar is still in the early stages of development and not yet a major focus for the company.
CD Projekt also has a long-term plan in place for the next six years, which includes launching The Witcher 4, The Witcher 5, and The Witcher 6. This ambitious schedule makes it unlikely that there will be expansions for The Witcher 4, as the company will be focused on developing the next games in the series. At the same time, Cyberpunk 2 is also on the horizon, and how Project Hadar will fit into CD Projekt’s packed release schedule remains to be seen.
