Destiny 2's Boss-Killing Tradition Reimagined as Void Football Mayhem

Destiny 2's sun is setting, and it's perhaps fitting that one of the oldest traditions of the franchise—that is, pushing bosses to their doom—is happening once again. This time, however, players are reimagining the chaos by transforming into porcupines wielding void light footballs to smite enemies into submission. The technique has gone viral, with players using it to farm high-tier loot in the Pantheon raid gauntlet, which returned in Destiny 2's final update.

The method, as explained by YouTuber InSaNeGaMeR300, combines a crossbow with high Persistence (which ensures the bolts stick for longer) and the Sentinel Titan's Ward of Dawn ability. This ability creates a protective dome of void light that players can reposition. Interestingly, when crossbow bolts are embedded in the central orb of the Ward of Dawn, they travel with the player as they carry the dome under their arm like a football. When used against enemies, the effect is explosive—hitting an opponent with the Ward of Dawn while in this porcupine-like state sends them flying.

A Full-Circle Moment in Destiny's Legacy

This full-circle moment echoes the early days of the Destiny franchise, where players would push the Vault of Glass boss, Templar, into the void using pulse grenades. Now, players are using a more creative and chaotic approach to achieve the same goal—though with a much more humorous twist. The technique has become a staple among raiders looking to farm the Pantheon's challenging content for Tier 5 weapon drops, which are notoriously difficult to obtain.

Bungie's Response and the End of an Era

It remains to be seen whether Bungie will allow this exploit to continue, especially as Destiny 2 enters its end-of-life era. While the ability to easily farm bosses for loot is both amusing and effective, it may not align with the developer's vision for the game's final chapter. However, the community sees it as a fitting end to a game that has always encouraged creative and unconventional playstyles.

For now, players can enjoy their free boss kills and the potential for rare god rolls. As one of our own Destiny 2 players, Sean Martin, noted, this update is one of the paradoxically best in the game's history—packed with long-awaited quality of life features and, of course, the unexpected joy of smacking bosses with a void light football.
