Fortnite Begins Reselling Old Battle Pass Skins in Next Update

As Fortnite prepares for its next major update, players can expect to see a shift in how in-game content is made available. Starting soon, Epic Games will begin reselling skins and characters from previous battle passes, a move that marks a significant change in the company’s long-standing policy.

The first batch of resold content will include characters from Chapter 5 Season 4: Absolute Doom, which was the most recent Marvel-themed season. This season ran from August 16 to November 2, 2024, and featured a range of Marvel icons, including Doctor Doom, Mysterio, Shuri, War Machine, Gwenpool, and Emma Frost. Additionally, a Captain America version of Fortnite character Jonesy will also return. These items are expected to reappear in the in-game shop soon, giving players a chance to acquire them without needing to purchase the full battle pass.

Previously, Epic Games had vowed never to resell content from time-limited battle passes, a policy that made these passes highly desirable. However, this approach ultimately created a barrier for newer players who wanted to access older characters. As Fortnite approaches its 10th anniversary, the company has decided to change course, beginning with the Ultimate Doom season in 2024. Despite this shift, Epic Games has stated that battle pass content will not be sold separately for the next 18 months.

The 18-month window for the Absolute Doom season has now passed, and fans have been eagerly awaiting its return. In a recent teaser posted on X/Twitter, Epic Games showed the vault doors opening to reveal this long-lost content, sparking positive reactions from the community. This move is likely a win-win for Epic Games. It allows them to re-monetize characters at a higher price, while players are no longer pressured by FOMO (fear of missing out) to purchase battle passes immediately.

The upcoming update will be a major one, packed with new features and content. This includes a major collaboration with popstar Olivia Rodrigo and a crossover with Neopets. These additions will keep the game busy for the next two weeks before Epic Games takes its annual two-week summer break.
