Frontier is no stranger to crafting immersive management simulators, with its Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster series standing as some of the most beloved in the genre. However, the studio has now confirmed that it is working on a new Planet game that will not be tied to zoos or rollercoasters. This revelation comes as Frontier has recently filed trademarks for several new titles in the Planet franchise, sparking a wave of speculation about what this upcoming project might entail.

In a recent post on Discord, shared on Reddit, Frontier's head of player engagement, Richard Stephenson, confirmed that the studio is currently developing a brand-new Planet game. "We've started work on a brand-new Planet Game franchise, which has all the familiarity you love, but a completely new setting for us than Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo, one which still combines our love for creativity, management and meaningful simulation," Stephenson wrote.

The post has since generated a lot of excitement among fans, who have been speculating wildly about what the new game could be. Among the most popular suggestions are Planet Resort, where players would manage a chain of hotels, and Planet Festival, which would involve organizing and managing concerts and events. Another popular idea is Planet City, a city-building simulation similar to SimCity and Cities: Skylines.

Frontier Files Trademarks for New Planet Titles

Frontier has filed trademarks for several new titles in the Planet franchise, including Planet Resort, Planet Festival, Planet Farm, Planet Vacation, Planet Dinosaur, Planet Prehistoric, Planet Fantasy, Planet Mythical Creatures, and Planet Dragon. These trademarks suggest that the studio is seriously considering a range of different settings for its upcoming game.

Some of these titles may be filed to prevent competition, especially considering Frontier is already working on the Jurassic World Evolution series, which would make Planet Dinosaur a less likely choice. Similarly, Planet Farm seems too similar to Planet Zoo, given that Stephenson emphasized that this new game would be set in a "completely new setting" for Frontier.

Of all the potential titles, Planet Resort seems the most likely, as it would be thematically close to Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo. However, Planet Fantasy is an intriguing option, as it would allow for a game featuring dragons and knights, though it might introduce complexities that could be challenging for a management sim.

Frontier's new Planet game is expected to be released sometime after 2028, given that Planet Zoo 2 is set to launch later this year. Considering the two-year gap between Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster 2, it's reasonable to assume that the new game will take some time to develop and refine.
