God Of War Has Been Building Toward Laufey For Almost A Decade
The upcoming God of War title, Laufey, has been in the works for much longer than many fans might expect. Actress Deborah Ann Woll, who provided the motion capture and voice acting for the game's protagonist, Faye, recently shared that she's been aware of the project for nearly a decade. Woll revealed that God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog first pitched the idea to her in 2018, even having early concepts that included Faye paired with a sidekick: Phranque, the talking cube.
"It's wild. Like when Cory brought me in to talk about doing Ragnarok and showed me the 2018 game, he already had a poster for the Laufey game with me and a cube. A cube that's been there since the beginning. It's deeply a part of the lore," Woll said in an interview with CGM. She also mentioned that the reveal trailer for Laufey left her stunned, with the game's long-awaited arrival finally coming into focus.
A New Era For God Of War
While previous games in the series centered around Kratos, the infamous god-slayer, Laufey marks a significant shift in the franchise. This time, the spotlight is on Faye, a character who allows for new and diverse storytelling within the God of War universe. Woll explained that Faye's story brings themes that are universal to all people, offering a fresh perspective on the world of Norse mythology.
The gameplay reveal for Laufey has sparked a lot of excitement and speculation among fans. Although there's no official release date yet, the extensive footage has led to numerous theories about the game's direction. Some of the most intriguing questions include which deceased gods might make an appearance, what secrets Faye's sword could uncover, and where the game fits into the broader God of War timeline.
Fans are eagerly waiting for more details about this new chapter in the series. With its deep lore and innovative storytelling, Laufey promises to be a game that will leave a lasting impact on the franchise.
