GTA 6 Physical Copies Won’t Include Discs, Just Download Codes

As GTA 6 preorders open on June 25, Rockstar Games has confirmed a key detail about the physical version of its upcoming open-world title. Despite being labeled as "physical," the edition does not include a traditional disc. Instead, the box will contain a download code that players can use to access the game on their PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. This means the game is technically a digital product, even though it's sold in a physical box.

This move aligns with comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who mentioned earlier this year that the company is exploring ways to blend physical and digital experiences. While the idea may raise eyebrows among fans who prefer the tangible aspect of owning a game, it offers a practical benefit. Players who purchase the physical edition will be able to preload GTA 6 starting on November 12, just like those who opt for the digital version. This gives them a full week of head start before the game officially launches on November 19.

What’s Included with GTA 6 Preorders?

Rockstar has also confirmed that all GTA 6 preorders and purchases made before November 20 will include the Vintage Vice City Pack DLC. This '80s-themed cosmetic set includes items that evoke the neon-lit era of Vice City, one of the most iconic settings in the Grand Theft Auto series. As Rockstar describes it, the pack is a "collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest."

The Ultimate Edition and More

Alongside the standard edition, Rockstar has teased an Ultimate Edition of GTA 6, which is expected to include additional content and perks. However, the release of a third trailer remains uncertain. While fans are eagerly awaiting more details, Rockstar’s history with marketing suggests that the third trailer may not be released before the game’s launch.

Another big question on the minds of gamers is the price of GTA 6. With the AAA game market seeing a shift toward higher price points, many are wondering if Rockstar will follow suit and charge $80 or more. The month of November is shaping up to be a major release window for GTA 6, as many other studios are shifting their launch dates to avoid competing with the highly anticipated title.

For instance, September is already packed with major releases, and several high-profile games are now targeting December or early 2027 for their launches. This strategic move highlights the immense anticipation surrounding GTA 6 and its potential to dominate the gaming landscape.
