The Riven Tides update introduces a sun-soaked beach resort map to Arc Raiders, but don't let the scenery fool you—there is plenty of loot waiting under the sand. The new Beachcombing map condition allows players to hunt for buried treasure along the shoreline, provided they have the right gear. Unlike other map conditions, successful scavenging requires you to bring a specific tool into the match: the Dockmaster's Detector.

How to get the Dockmaster's Detector in Arc Raiders

Before you can start hunting for riches, you must first acquire the detector itself. This specialized gadget functions as a metal detector and is essential for locating hidden items. There are several ways to obtain a Dockmaster's Detector:

  • Looting: Search containers or take them from other players during Beachcombing matches.
  • Quests: Accept the "Shoring Up Defenses" questline.
  • Avian Alarm Project: Complete the first step of this project by placing a bird trap.

While looting is currently the most consistent method, keep an eye out for a potential Dockmaster's Detector blueprint. Being able to craft these gadgets would significantly change the way players approach the Riven Tide map.

If you enter a match without one, you can still head to the shore; there is always a chance you will encounter another player equipped with a detector. While combat is never guaranteed, taking a detector from an opponent—or negotiating a deal—might be your fastest way to start digging.

How to use the Dockmaster's Detector to beachcomb

To effectively use the Dockmaster's Detector, you must equip it as a quick-slot item in your loadout, much like a grenade or a healing item, before joining a match where Beachcombing is active.

Beachcombing functions as a periodic map condition for Riven Tide, meaning it triggers during normal matchmaking rather than being a separate mode. When this condition is active, the map features:

  • Buried valuables scattered across the sand.
  • Lootable Dockmaster's Detectors.
  • An increased presence of birds.

Finding and digging up treasure

The most valuable loot spawns exclusively in the dried-up Seabed area located in the north of Riven Tide. To find it, follow these steps:

  1. Activate the device: Hold the detector in your hand and hold the activation button. Note that using the tool will drain your stamina.
  2. Listen for signals: If treasure is nearby, the device will beep and flash with an orange or green light. If it remains silent, keep moving along the beach.
  3. Triangulate the location: As you approach a dig site, the beeping and flashing will increase in frequency.
  4. Identify the spot: The detector will flash green when you are very close. Once you are directly above the treasure, the light will turn a steady green, and a prompt to dig will appear.

Digging up a site can yield various surprises. You might encounter a bomb that requires rapid disarming or "Ticks" that jump at your face, but the rewards can be massive. Players have reported finding high-tier loot such as Il Toro shotguns, crafting material suitcases, and rare toy boat trinkets needed for the Avian Alarm project and Last Resort event.
