New Lara Croft Actor Reveals How She Busted Up Her Arm Making The New Game

Alix Wilton Regan, the new voice behind Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, has opened up about an injury she sustained during the production of Legacy of Atlantis. The upcoming game is a remake of the classic 1996 Tomb Raider title, developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog with the help of generative AI.

Wilton Regan shared her experience with WhatCulture Gaming, explaining how her dedication to the role led to an unexpected accident. "I just forget that I'm not actually Lara Croft," she admitted. "I was recently throwing myself into a door voluntarily as she batters the door down, and I hurt my arm by the end of the day."

The performance-capture process can be intense, and Wilton Regan's commitment to embodying Lara Croft meant she was willing to push her limits. "Everyone was like, 'You don't have to do that,' and I'm like, 'I do! I have to feel everything,'" she said. Her insistence on authenticity sometimes drove her co-stars to the edge.

The Cost of Immersion

Wilton Regan was doing multiple takes in a row during one particular scene, which led to her injury. "My arm was hanging limply by my side," she said. "A co-star went, 'I don't think that's right.' I was like, 'Oh, it's probably not.'"

Her injury wasn't an isolated incident. Other Tomb Raider actors have also faced challenges on set. Sophie Turner, who portrays Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider TV show, recently suffered a "minor injury," causing a temporary shutdown of production.

Legacy of Atlantis was originally set for a 2026 release but has now been pushed back to February 2027. Alongside this remake, a brand-new Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is also expected to launch in 2027.

Wilton Regan is stepping into the role of Lara Croft after Camilla Luddington, who previously portrayed the character in 2013's Tomb Raider and its sequels, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Her performance will bring a fresh perspective to the iconic character, as the Tomb Raider franchise continues to evolve with new stories and technologies.
