A Scented Twist on PC Cases: Montech's Ten Wood with Essential Oils Diffuser
We got our eyes and noses on a new PC case with a magnetic essential oils diffuser to make your gaming den smell less like a gaming den. At this year’s Computex, unique case designs were a highlight, and one standout was the Montech Ten Wood. This PC case features wooden detailing and a magnetic wooden block positioned above the exhaust fans, designed to waft essential oils or other scents into your room. It’s a novel approach to personalizing your gaming space, blending tech with a touch of nature.
The magnetic wooden block is placed strategically in the middle of the case, fitting naturally into the crevice above the exhaust fans. While any PC with upward-facing exhaust fans could technically achieve a similar effect, the Ten Wood model offers a more aesthetically pleasing solution. The case comes in three models—M1, M2, and I3—with the first two supporting both Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX, and the I3 only supporting Mini-ITX. Despite the name, the amount of wood used in the case is minimal, with only small sections on the front panel, back, and the diffuser itself.
The Appeal of Scent in Gaming
For those who enjoy the calming effects of essential oils or incense, the Ten Wood case could be a practical and stylish addition. The diffuser is small, but it's positioned to take advantage of the airflow from the case’s exhaust fans. This setup might be enough to distribute the scent throughout your room, depending on the fan power and room size. The basic Montech Ten case starts at $70, and the Ten Wood model is expected to be slightly more expensive, though still within budget-friendly limits.
The diffuser itself is a niche feature, but it adds a unique touch to the case. While it may not be the main selling point, it's a nice extra for those looking to enhance their PC's appearance and atmosphere. The Ten Wood model is still awaiting a release date, but it's clear that Montech is pushing the boundaries of what a PC case can do.
Other Oddities from Computex
This isn't the only unusual case Montech showcased at Computex. The company also unveiled a shuttered PC case, which has left our team divided—some see its potential, while others are unsure of its practicality. In addition, we saw a massive case from Be Quiet! that can house up to seven HDDs, and a darkFlash Floatron case that looks like it belongs in an evil scientist’s lair. However, none of these designs captured the attention of our team as much as the Corsair Warthog, a military-themed case with flight control-style buttons and a light switch above the rear IO panel.
With so many unique and wacky PC cases available, it's a shame that the components to fit them are becoming more expensive. Still, the Montech Ten Wood offers an interesting blend of functionality and aesthetics, proving that even the most mundane parts of a gaming setup can be personalized in creative ways.
