Niantic has officially announced the details for this summer's massive celebration, confirming that Pokémon Go Fest 2026 Global will be free for players worldwide. Marking a major milestone for the hit mobile title, the event will take place on July 11 and July 12 to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary.
Unlike previous years that required a premium entry fee, this year's global festivities offer access to Special Research and boosted Shiny rates at no extra cost to the player base.
Mega Mewtwo Arrives in Super Mega Raids
The headline attraction for this summer is the long-awaited debut of Mega Mewtwo, appearing in both its X and Y forms. Given the massive revamp of Mega Pokémon earlier this year, fans expected this ultra-powerful creature to arrive during such a significant anniversary milestone.
To combat this new threat, Niantic is introducing Super Mega Raids. These high-intensity encounters require massive player coordination to defeat. Once the raid is complete, players will have the opportunity to:
- Catch Mewtwo directly.
- Earn Mega Energy X or Mega Energy Y to facilitate specific evolutions.
In a unique mechanical shift, Mega Mewtwo requires different energy resources for its two versions—a departure from how other Pokémon like Charizard operate. Additionally, while Mega Level progression is now being split for creatures with multiple Mega Evolutions, players will see their existing progress carried over.
Regional Go Fest Locations and Exclusive Rewards
While the global event is free, Niantic is still hosting three premium in-person events that offer an early look at Mega Mewtwo. These locations include:
- Chicago, North America
- Copenhagen, Europe
- Tokyo, Japan (which is already nearing a sell-out)
These physical venues will feature specialized raids allowing over 1,000 players to battle Mega Mewtwo simultaneously, providing a significant speed bonus for the massive crowds.
Beyond the headline raid, these in-person events will introduce several exclusive rewards and creatures, including:
- Mythical Pokémon Zeraora
- New costumed Pikachu variants
- Shiny Wash Rotom
- Shiny regional Tauros and Hawaiian Comfey
- A special costumed Caterpie wearing a Pokéball hat
Even though Pokémon Go Fest 2026 Global will be free, players should prepare to manage their in-game resources carefully. While the entry is complimentary, battling will still require the use of raid passes and the newly introduced Link Charge currency.
