Pokémon Winds and Waves Starters May Launch in Pokémon Go Ahead of Mainline Games
Fans of the Pokémon franchise may not have to wait until 2027 for the debut of the starter Pokémon from Pokémon Winds and Waves. The Gen 10 trio — the Grass-type bird Browt, the Fire-type dog Pombon, and the Water-type lizard Gecqua — were revealed at the end of the first Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves trailer. That same trailer confirmed the long-awaited 10th generation of Pokémon games will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. However, some believe the wait for these new creatures could be shorter than anticipated.
According to a thread on the popular Pokémon Go fan forum TheSilphRoad, datamining has uncovered the first hints that the new starter Pokémon could join the game in the future, along with content for other upcoming events. These creatures were always expected to arrive in Pokémon Go, as the mobile game has become home to the vast majority of Pokémon species. Previous generations have also seen their starters appear in Pokémon Go around the same time as the mainline games, often to promote their arrival.
However, this would be very early for data on the three species to be added, especially if Pokémon Winds and Waves doesn't launch until late 2027. The suggestion that the trio could debut in Pokémon Go much sooner would be a huge deal for the game and the Pokémon franchise as a whole. Pokémon Go remains a major attraction for millions of players and is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this summer. It would be the perfect platform to introduce the new creatures to a wider audience.
Still, new starter Pokémon have never previously become obtainable before their associated mainline games' launch. However, Pokémon Go has led the charge in debuting new Pokémon species before, such as Meltan and the Roaming Form of Gimmighoul, which appeared in the game before their mainline game releases.
What's Next for Pokémon Go?
For now, Pokémon Go is preparing for its biggest annual in-game event, Go Fest Global 2026, which will take place on July 11 and 12. This year’s event will feature the wide debut of Mega Mewtwo and will be free to access for all players in celebration of the game's 10th anniversary. No extra payment will be needed to access its questlines or boosted Shiny chances.
After all of that, fans will be hoping that the trio of starters from Pokémon Winds and Waves won’t be too far behind. While nothing is confirmed yet, the early signs are promising for those eager to catch these new creatures sooner than expected.
