Ready Your Clown Noses: The Game Reveals We Keep Hoping For Ahead Of SGF 2026

As the summer game reveal season approaches, fans worldwide are donning their metaphorical clown noses in hopes of seeing the games they’ve been longing for. This period, marked by events like E3 and Summer Game Fest, is when the gaming industry unveils its most anticipated titles. However, for many, this time also brings the bittersweet reality of setting high expectations that may not be met.

Bloodborne: A Masterpiece in Need of a Remaster

At this point, a remaster of Bloodborne would be more than enough, but the gaming community is hoping for something even more. A remake or a follow-up to the 2015 masterpiece is at the top of many fans' lists. Bloodborne has long been a favorite among From Software enthusiasts, and while it's already a classic, a performance upgrade would certainly help in making the action game stand the test of time.

A smooth 60fps gameplay experience on modern consoles would be a welcome addition. Additionally, quality of life upgrades like the ability to rest at lanterns or travel directly between them would enhance the overall experience.

If the dream is allowed to get bigger, returning to Yharnam for a new adventure would be ideal. Not a sequel, but something that uses the lore established in Bloodborne to create an entirely new scenario. Exploring more about Castle Cainhurst and its Vilebloods, or the early expeditions into the Chalice dungeons, would be a delightful addition to the world of Bloodborne.

Splinter Cell: The Long Wait Continues

The Splinter Cell remake was first announced in late 2021, and now we're approaching the five-year mark. Despite this, there has been no actual gameplay or even a cinematic trailer released. Ubisoft has confirmed that the game is still in production, even with the recent layoffs at developer Ubisoft Toronto. However, it remains unclear when more information will be shared.

While the animated Netflix series has kept the franchise alive and shown that there's still fan interest, it doesn't quite replace the experience of playing as Sam Fisher. The last Splinter Cell game was released in 2013, and since then, two console generations have passed. With the release of The Division, Ghost Recon, and Rainbow Six games, Sam Fisher has made guest appearances, but his own game remains as mysterious as Third Echelon.

Rez 2: A Dream of a Sequel

There's no game I have returned to on a regular basis for as long as Rez. The incredible blend of music and gameplay that Rez offers has never been matched by another game for me. The foray into a more open environment in Rez Infinite's Area X felt like only a taste of where Rez could go. While developer Enhance has branched out with games like Tetris Effect, every showcase brings a longing for a sequel to Rez.

Given that Enhance is a relatively small studio and Rez isn't a huge name brand, it feels unlikely that a sequel will happen. However, with technology continuing to advance, it's hoped that Tetsuya Mizuguchi finds the inspiration to return to Rez once again.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

Every year, I get my hopes up for Nintendo to finally release The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD on the Switch. Each time, those hopes are dashed, much like low-cost dentures biting into a marshmallow. While the GameCube version is available through Switch Online, it's not the one I want.

The Wii U version of Wind Waker HD is a perfect reimagining of a beloved classic. The HD version offers a sharper resolution, improved sailing mechanics, and a streamlined Triforce quest. Considering Nintendo’s track record of re-releasing other Zelda games and launching new spin-offs, it's only a matter of time before Wind Waker HD finally sees the light of day. Perhaps with the upcoming live-action Zelda movie, Wind Waker HD could finally make its debut.
