Sonic’s New Chaos Hunt Game Includes Some Fine Print You Shouldn’t Skip

As the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog approaches, Sega is rolling out a variety of celebratory content, including a new ARG (Augmented Reality Game) called Chaos Hunt. The game invites fans to track down missing Chaos Emeralds, an iconic element of the Sonic universe. However, while the game is an exciting addition to the franchise, players should take a moment to review the terms of service before diving in.

The terms of service for Chaos Hunt, as highlighted by user Luna Leo on social media, include provisions that require players to agree to the use of their data for AI model training and to share their details with third-party AI vendors. This is an important consideration for players who may not be aware of the data collection practices involved in the game.

According to the terms, Sega states that it uses "reasonable efforts to prohibit [third-party] providers from using any of your personal information for the purposes of developing and improving their AI models." The company also emphasizes that these third-party providers are required to secure and protect the data they collect from players.

As part of the Chaos Hunt event, Sega released a video featuring Takashi Iizuka, the Sonic Creative Officer, delivering an in-universe announcement that the Chaos Emeralds were stolen by Dr. Robotnik ahead of the opening of Club Chaos. This sets the stage for the game and adds an extra layer of immersion for fans.

The event also includes a variety of prizes for participants. Three grand prize winners will receive a trip to New York City to experience Club Chaos firsthand. For those who can't make it, tickets to Club Chaos will be available for purchase starting on August 28. Other prizes include:

  • Leblon Delienne statue
  • Lego Sega Genesis
  • Sonic 35th anniversary letterman jacket
  • Sonic Crossbody bag
  • Sonic 35th anniversary plush
  • King Ice pendant
  • Signed artwork
  • Sonic video game bundle

In addition to Chaos Hunt, Sega is partnering with iam8bit to release 35th anniversary Sega Genesis cartridges for both Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. These retro cartridges are a nostalgic treat for long-time fans of the franchise.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is also getting a major update with crossover collaborations featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Godzilla, Avatar Legends, and even Neon Genesis Evangelion. This expansion highlights Sega's commitment to celebrating the Sonic legacy while pushing the boundaries of crossover content in the gaming industry.
