Spider-Man: Brand New Day Runtime Revealed, And It's One of The Longest Marvel Films Ever
AMC Theatres has officially revealed the runtime of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to be one of the longest Spider-Man films ever made. At 150 minutes — that's two hours and 30 minutes — the film will also rank as longer than almost every other Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Considering the number of characters and plotlines in the film, this runtime might not come as a surprise to fans. Tom Holland's fourth solo outing as the webslinger is also longer than any Spider-Man film starring Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield — and two minutes longer than Holland's own longest Spider-Man movie to date, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured all three heroes together.
A Packed Storyline Justifies the Length
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has plenty to do — which may account for its lengthy runtime. The film's main action picks up years after we last saw Peter Parker, who is now living alone and fighting the good fight in New York against a rogues' gallery of villains. Foes in the film include Michael Mando's Scorpion, back from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvin Jones III's Tombstone, Boomerang (who fans think is being played by Eman Esfandi, making him the secret identity of MJ's new boyfriend), Tarantula, ninja cult The Hand, a rampant version of Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, whoever Sadie Sink's playing (who seems to at least initially be framed as an enemy), and the Department of Damage Control (who seem to initially be framed as friendly).
That's quite a lot for Spider-Man to be getting on with, but then there's also the fact that Peter himself seems to be going through some kind of physical metamorphosis, there's his reluctant partnership with Jon Bernthal's The Punisher to sort out, and the fact he still is keeping an eye on Zendaya's MJ and Jacob Batalon's Ned, even though they no longer know who he is. Phew. How this will all weave together remains to be seen — though there is at least not very long left until we get to see it ourselves, when the film arrives in theaters on July 31. A second trailer for the movie also seems imminent, after the majority of it leaked over the weekend.
