Star Wars: Galactic Racer Is A Burnout Game

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a different kind of Star Wars game, trading in its lightsabers and heroics for a story about the seedy underground racing circuit. This opens comparisons to the cult classic Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, but after getting hands-on, we were much more reminded of another classic racing franchise: Burnout. The game's intense, high-speed action and emphasis on destruction and takedowns bring to mind the style of the Burnout series, even though it's set in the Star Wars universe.

In the video below, Jake Dekker explains that the destructive action of Galactic Racer feels like a classic Burnout game. This is not to be confused with Burnout Paradise, since Galactic Racer isn't an open-world racing game. But the takedowns themselves feel pure Burnout, albeit with speeders and speederbikes and swoops instead of cars and motorcycles and trucks. And that makes sense, given that developer Fuse Games was founded by developers from Criterion. The connection to Criterion is clear, and it's easy to see why the game has such a familiar feel.

In the video, Jake also outlines the story, explains the Star Wars-like special abilities, and yes, the ability to podrace. The game brings a unique blend of Star Wars lore and high-octane racing mechanics, making it a must-play for fans of both the franchise and the Burnout series.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X on October 6.
