The much-anticipated launch of the Steam Controller hit a major snag today as orders quickly vanished from the store. While fans were eager to secure Valve's latest hardware, widespread technical difficulties prevented many users from completing their purchases.

Payment Processing Errors Disrupt Steam Controller Launch

Valve officially opened orders for the Steam Controller at approximately 1 PM ET. However, the rollout was immediately marred by significant payment processing issues.

While a small number of customers managed to secure an order during the initial window, a large portion of the community encountered a frustrating error message during checkout. After entering shipping and billing details, users were met with the following notification:

"There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."

Rapid Depletion of Steam Controller Inventory

The chaos surrounding the launch led to a rapid depletion of available units. As the technical errors persisted, the shipping estimates provided by Steam also fluctuated:

  • Initial Estimate: 3–5 days for delivery.
  • Updated Estimate: 6–10 business days.

As the transaction errors continued to plague the storefront, the error message eventually shifted from payment failures to a notification stating that orders could not be completed because items in the cart were out of stock.

Currently, the Steam Controller page displays an "Out of Stock" status, and users are unable to add the device to their digital carts. For now, hardware enthusiasts will have to wait for news on a potential restock from Valve.
