Summer Grade Fest: How Many SGF Live 2025 Announcements Panned Out?
While June usually marks the end of the school year for kids around the country, in the video game world, June is just the beginning. Summer Game Fest Live kicks off a busy reveal season for indie and AAA gaming alike, but sometimes what's shown on stage doesn't always make it to your home console or PC. With SGF Live 2026 on the horizon, we're looking back at last year's show to evaluate how many of those games did make it to shelves, how many are still in development, and how many, if any, were left on the cutting room floor. SGF Live 2026, meanwhile, kicks off Friday, June 5 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET, and it will be livestreamed on Twitch, YouTube, and more.
A Mixed Bag of Outcomes
Some of the most anticipated titles from SGF Live 2025 have made it to market, while others are still waiting for their big debut. Let's take a closer look at what happened with the most notable announcements from the event.
Mortal Shell II was one of the highlights of the show, with the sequel to Cold Symmetry's souls-like debuting on stage. While it still hasn't launched as of this writing, there were previews floating around as recently as April of this year. Consider this one still in development.
VERDICT: Jury's still out.
The limited-time event Death Star Sabotage in Fortnite marked the end of the month-long Star Wars mini-season, and led right into Chapter 6 Season 3: Super. This was one of the few promises that came through as planned, and it was a hit with fans.
VERDICT: It happened! Score one for SGF Live 2025.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was another major reveal, with Hideo Kojima and Geoff Keighley joining forces to present a new trailer. The game eventually launched just a few weeks later on June 26, 2025, making it one of the most successful SGF Live announcements.
VERDICT: Another point for Keighley, courtesy of his old buddy Hideo.
Chronicles: Medieval promised early access opportunities in 2026, but that still hasn't come to pass. The game is an open-world sandbox title featuring large-scale battles between medieval armies from Raw Power Games. For now, we simply wait.
VERDICT: Jury's still out.
Some Announcements Delivered, Others Lagged
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds hit the stage next, revealing guest racers Hatsune Mike, Ichiban Kasuga, and Joker, while also teasing a Minecraft collaboration. The release date was set for September 25, and the game did indeed launch with all of these new friends in tow.
VERDICT: The Sonic racer indeed launched in September with all of these new friends in tow. That's a point!
Code Vein II was another return to Bandai Namco's anime souls-like, with a 2026 release date mentioned in the SGF trailer. The game launched in January of this year, which means SGF Live 2025 is already up to four points.
VERDICT: Code Vein II launched in January of this year, which means SGF Live 2025 is already up to four points.
End Of Abyss from Section 9 Interactive brought a creepy atmosphere with claustrophobic hallways and mean-looking monsters. The game was set for a 2026 release window, but nothing has been announced since the event.
VERDICT: Jury's still out.
Mouse: P.I. For Hire featured a noir boomer-shooter with Troy Baker as the lead voice. The trailer ended with a 2025 release window, which the game did not hit. However, it did launch in April 2026, but not as promised.
VERDICT: While Mouse did launch in April 2026, SGF Live promised 2025, and that didn't happen. We can't give the point here.
Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros was one of the most surprising trailers of the show, with a cinematic reveal of Jon Snow defeated by and joining sides with the Night King. However, there have been no updates on the game since last year.
VERDICT: Jury's still out.
Two Projects, No Progress
Mundfish came to the stage with a pair of projects: Atomic Heart II and The Cube. Atomic Heart II is a follow-up to the outlandish 2023 FPS, while The Cube is an open-world MMORPG shooter set in a new universe. Or, at least we think, because nothing new for The Cube nor Atomic Heart II has been shown since SGF 2025.
VERDICT: Jury's still out x2.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion got back on track with the 2D beat-'em-up revealing Rocket Raccoon and She-Hulk as playable characters. Both heroes were in the final roster, and the game launched in December.
VERDICT: Back on the board!
A Few Standouts
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword was one of Capcom's big announcements, with a 2026 release window. The State of Play earlier this week set a September 25 release date, so things are trending in the right direction.
VERDICT: Jury's still out, but the State of Play earlier this week set a September 25 release date, so things are trending in the right direction.
Felt That Boxing was one of the most bizarre (complimentary) trailers of the show, with a Punch-Out-like style and every character looking like a Muppet. This trailer is the only thing we've seen from Felt That so far, so we're wondering what's going to happen.
VERDICT: Jury's still out.
Killer Inn is a social deduction game that met Square Enix's signature style. Players are grouped into a hotel, most of whom are marked as Lambs, and a few selected as Wolves. The Lambs must seek out and kill the Wolves, or else risk being murdered themselves.
VERDICT: Killer Inn's closed beta kicked off later in the summer, as the trailer promised, and the game is available now, so that's a point.
Arc Raiders had a successful launch after its latest trailer dropped new gameplay and an October 30 release date. The game not only came true, but it marked one of the most successful launches of the year.
VERDICT: SGF extracts a point for this one.
Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival game set on Arrakis, and it launched on June 10 as planned. Now it's set to debut on consoles in September.
VERDICT: Dune launched on June 10 as planned, and now is set to debut on consoles in September. SGF scores a point!
