A New Era for Thief: Graphic Novel and Original Soundtrack in the Works

Not content with a Nightdive remaster, Thief is getting even more love in the form of an officially licensed graphic novel and an original soundtrack featuring Garrett’s voice actor. This is a pretty good time to be a Thief fan, especially with the recent announcement of Thief: The Dark Project Remastered at The PC Gaming Show. Nightdive Studios, known for their exceptional remastering work, is bringing Looking Glass’ revolutionary stealth game back to life with modern upgrades and enhanced features.

But the Thief revival doesn’t stop there. Recently, Thick as Thieves made waves as a new stealth game crafted by many of the original Thief creators. Though it’s a more streamlined experience compared to its original PvPvE concept, it has shown that the Thief universe still has life and appeal.

Thief: Pulse of Promise – A Graphic Novel Set in the Original Universe

The latest addition to the Thief franchise is Thief: Pulse of Promise, an officially licensed graphic novel developed by Bit Bot Media in collaboration with Eidos-Montreal, the studio behind the 2014 Thief reboot. Despite the involvement of Eidos-Montreal, the story is not set in the rebooted Thief universe. Instead, Pulse of Promise is set between the events of Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age. This places the story firmly in the original timeline, featuring the beloved protagonist Garrett rather than his 2014 counterpart.

The graphic novel’s cover art channels the aesthetic of the first two Thief games, giving fans a sense of nostalgia. The project is currently being crowdfunded via BackerKit, with additional perks including a statue, replicas, clothing, a plush, and an original soundtrack by Celldweller.

An Original Soundtrack Featuring Garrett’s Voice Actor

The soundtrack for Pulse of Promise will be composed by Celldweller, a band known for their energetic and dynamic music. Most excitingly, it will feature a new performance by Stephen Russell, the voice actor who brought Garrett to life in the original Thief games. While the idea of Garrett rapping might be amusing, it seems that Celldweller’s style is more in line with the atmospheric and immersive soundscapes that define the Thief series.

Though the graphic novel and soundtrack are still in development, the campaign has not yet launched, suggesting that both will likely be released after the Thief: The Dark Project Remastered hits the market. This would be a fitting follow-up, as the graphic novel’s story is set after the events of The Dark Project.

What to Expect from the Thief Remaster

As for the remaster itself, Nightdive Studios is delivering everything fans have come to expect from their remastering efforts. Expect upgraded visuals, support for 4K and 120 FPS, and a wealth of behind-the-scenes content. However, the most exciting features are the level-select mode, which allows players to jump directly into The Sword, and the custom campaign support, which opens the door to a vast array of fan-made missions like The Black Parade.

These additions ensure that the remaster is not just a visual upgrade but a deeper, more engaging experience for long-time fans and newcomers alike.
