Valheim Finally Has A 1.0 Release Date
Valheim developer Iron Gate Studios has just announced that the Deep North update—marking the game's transition from early access to version 1.0—will be released on September 9, 2026. In addition to the major update, the viking survival game is also expanding to two new platforms, with PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions coming soon.
A Long-Awaited Update for Valheim Fans
Deep North has been a long time coming for Valheim fans, who have been waiting for a new major update since the Ashlands update was released over two years ago. The game has been in early access for over five years, during which Iron Gate Studios gradually introduced new biomes and features to bring Valheim closer to its final, completed state.
A new release date trailer provides a glimpse into the chilling Deep North biome, showcasing players' journeys through various biomes leading to the most challenging one yet. The trailer highlights deep snow, pack ice, frozen tunnels, massive ruins, and a host of new enemies that will test players' skills.
While the full scope of the Deep North update remains a mystery, Iron Gate Studios has gradually revealed some of the new features on the way. The new biome will feature deep snow, which players can clear by crafting a new shovel item if they want to build in the Deep North. The frozen biome will also grow lingonberries, a new food item that can be used to cook a classic Swedish meatball dish.
The trailer also prominently features drawbridges, a new buildable piece that Iron Gate says has been highly requested by the community. As the game's final major update, players can expect a wealth of new build pieces, recipes, and other items. However, Iron Gate Studios has not yet revealed all the new content that will be included in the update.
Valheim Deep North will be available on PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 9, 2026.
