Early access survival games can be notoriously treacherous for players, and we aren't just talking about lethal monsters. As titles undergo years of constant patching and updates, players often face devastating consequences like corrupted saves, lost items, or overwritten bases. In the worst scenarios, developers implement full world wipes, forcing everyone to start from scratch.

With the upcoming pirate-themed adventure, Kraken Express has stepped up to clarify their stance on player data. They want to reassure fans that they have no intention of forcing Windrose progress wipes as the game moves toward its 1.0 release.

No Planned Windrose Progress Wipes

The developers were explicit about their intentions regarding player longevity during a recent community update. "We stated it before, but looks like it is worth repeating: NO WIPES are planned!" Kraken Express announced via their Discord server.

They emphasized that their technical goal is to maintain stability throughout the development cycle:

  • Technical Support: The team is working to ensure future updates keep progress intact.
  • Long-term Vision: The roadmap aims for a seamless transition from early access to full release.
  • Player Retention: Avoiding wipes is a priority to prevent player burnout.

"We do our best on tech side to allow all the future updates to keep your progress intact all the way to 1.0 release," the studio added.

"Of Course Shit Happens"

Despite the optimistic outlook, Kraken Express provided a realistic caveat regarding the inherent risks of early development. While they are actively working to prevent data loss, they acknowledged that technical hurdles can arise unexpectedly.

"Of course shit happens," the developers noted, explaining that while their current implementation is designed to roll out major updates without destroying worlds, perfection isn't guaranteed. They admitted that avoiding wipes was a primary motivation for their development process, as they recognized it as a major "pain point" in the survival genre.

For many players, this transparency is vital. Many survival titles have left players heartbroken after finding bases swallowed by terrain changes or save files rendered incompatible by new patches. By acknowledging these risks upfront, Kraken Express is attempting to build trust while navigating the unpredictable waters of Windrose development.
