Between dodging blister head zombies and sprinting for your life from The Girl, solving The Final Puzzle in Resident Evil Requiem can feel like an impossible task. After hours spent staring at cryptic numbers corresponding to moon, star, and sun symbols, many players found themselves waiting for the community to crack the code.

That wait only lasted four days. Thanks to a bit of community datamining, the mystery was unraveled much faster than the developers ever anticipated.

Developers Surprised by Rapid Solution

The speed at which players conquered the challenge caught the development team completely off guard. Director Akifumi Nakanishi expressed his shock during an interview with Denfaminicogamer, noting that he had intended for this specific mystery to remain unsolved for at least two weeks.

"Wow, that was quick," Nakanishi remarked. He admitted that even within the development team, there were doubts about whether anyone would notice the puzzle at all. This wasn't the first time Capcom faced such a phenomenon; Nakanishi recalled a similar experience with the "doll's finger" puzzle in the Resident Evil 7 demo, which was solved in just half a day.

Producer Masato Kumazawa shared this disbelief, stating: "When I heard about it from Nakanishi, I said, 'No way, nobody will be able to solve this!'"

The Absurdity of The Final Puzzle

What makes The Final Puzzle so notorious is the sheer number of bizarre and convoluted steps required to complete it. The sequence involves several high-stress mechanics:

  • Navigating a complex symbol-based number puzzle.
  • Waiting 15 minutes at a basement conveyor belt while a grinder runs.
  • Surviving a segment where players must avoid zombies rather than killing them.
  • Returning to the Hospital bathroom to perform a specific task.

The most ridiculous element involves the basement grinder section. After completing the prior steps, players must wait for the belt to finish processing bodies before attempting to survive the machine's operation. While fans have theorized that this process floods the system with blood to float a doll to the surface, Capcom has yet to officially confirm this logic.

A Convoluted Path to Rewards

The final stretch of the puzzle is perhaps the most nonsensical. After surviving the grinder, players are required to return to a hospital bathroom and flush the toilet eight times.

While it sounds absurd, there is a grim hint left in the game: a picture of a dead body in a stall with the number eight scribbled in blood nearby. Completing this sequence allows players to reunite the doll with Emily in a subsequent playthrough, complete the symbol puzzle, and ultimately claim a hidden message along with 20,000 in-game currency.
