The Sagrada Família, a monumental 12,060-piece set, is officially the largest and most intricate Lego set ever created. A Monument to Architect Antoni Gaudí

The Sagrada Família is not just a Lego set—it's a tribute to one of the most iconic architectural works in the world. Located in Barcelona, Spain, the basilica was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Work on the structure began in 1882, and when Gaudí passed away in 1926, only a quarter of the building was completed. However, construction continues to this day, with the structure still evolving and unfinished.

This Lego set follows Gaudí’s original construction timeline, beginning with the Apse with Crypt and the Nativity façade, the only part of the structure completed during his lifetime. From there, builders will move on to the naves and Western Sacristy, eventually finishing with the Eastern Sacristy and Glory façade. A small nameplate at the base adds a final touch, honoring the real-life monument.

A Complex Build for Advanced Builders

At 24 inches high, 18.5 inches wide, and 15 inches deep, the Sagrada Família set is not only massive but also incredibly detailed. With 12,060 pieces, it’s a feat of engineering and design, and Lego has recommended it for builders 18 years and older due to its complexity.

The set was designed by Rok Zgalin Kobe, a renowned Lego architecture designer. Known for creating sets like the Colosseum, Taj Mahal, and Eiffel Tower, Kobe was tasked with bringing Gaudí’s vision to life in miniature. "Our goal was to honour Gaudí’s vision with the utmost respect, capturing the rhythm of the basilica’s construction, its extraordinary complexity and ambition, and translating that into an immersive building experience," Kobe said in a press release.

Lego chose to release this set to commemorate the centennial year of Gaudí’s passing, making it a fitting tribute to the architect's legacy.
