Later this week, MagicCon Amsterdam will bring tons of news on Magic: The Gathering's next two expansions, August's The Hobbit and October's in-universe Reality Fracture. Today, Wizards of the Coast kicked off MagicCon week with a look further into the future and into deep space, as multiple cards from November's Star Trek set were revealed, including a set of Headliner cards that boldly go where no Magic card has ever gone before: authentic autographs.

The Star Trek set, which encompasses all 60 years of the franchise's history, will feature seven Headliner cards--premium variants of cards from the main expansion that only appear in Collector Booster packs--that not only feature seven of Star Trek's most iconic characters, but also the autographs of the actors who played them. Two of the seven Headliners (pictured below without signatures) were revealed during the livestream--Captain James T. Kirk signed by William Shatner, and Captain Kathryn Janeway signed by Kate Mulgrew--while principal art designer Tom Jenkot revealed that "a little north of 200" of each Headliner will be available in Star Trek Collector Boosters.

Multiple cards were also revealed during the stream, highlighting the characters, ships, and locations of the Star Trek universe, as well as some new mechanics. The new Dilemma mechanic, for example, offers additional perks when playing modal spells with multiple options, as seen on the card for Star Trek Voyager's Seven of Nine.

Meanwhile, a set-within-a-set bonus sheet, Stardates, will feature characters and scenes from the broader Star Trek universe, including the most recent films. The example shown during the stream was Khan, Engineered Evil, as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the controversial Star Trek: Into Darkness, which is a reprint of Sheoldred, The Apocalypse.

We also learned that the Star Trek expansion will include four preconstructed 100-card Commander decks, each in three colors and each following a certain theme. The four Commander decks are as follows:

  • Federation Fleet (White/Blue/Red)
  • Landing Party (White/Blue/Green)
  • Klingon Fury (White/Black/Red)
  • We Are The Borg (White/Blue/Black)

The Magic: The Gathering Star Trek expansion releases November 20 in big box retailers and local game stores, with prerelease events set to begin on November 13.
