IO Interactive has recently shared fresh details regarding its upcoming James Bond title, 007 First Light. The developer is introducing a new mode called Tac-Sim, which appears heavily inspired by some of the most successful post-launch features from the Hitman series.
The Evolution of 007 First Light via Tac-Sim
This new mode functions similarly to Hitman's Escalation Contracts and the highly praised Freelancer mode. In Tac-Sim, players must navigate missions with specific parameters designed to test 00 agents through increasingly difficult objectives. To drive competition, the mode also features an online leaderboard where you can compare your performance against other agents.
Completing Tac-Sim missions rewards players with experience points, which are essential for customizing your agent. These points can be spent on several key upgrades:
- Gadget upgrades
- New outfits
- New weapons
Progression and Game Changer Modifiers
To keep the gameplay loop fresh, IO Interactive is introducing "Game Changer" modifiers. These modifiers task players with completing specific sub-objectives that add layers of complexity to every mission. Some of these challenging objectives include:
- Finding secret notes
- Taking on powerful enemies
- Completing missions without firing any rounds
IO Interactive has stated that they plan to expand on the Tac-Sim experience over time by creating new post-launch content. This strategy mirrors how Hitman's extra modes provided endless replayability for the World of Assassination trilogy, specifically through the roguelike elements found in Freelancer. It is a natural evolution for 007 First Light, given that its open-ended mission structure was directly inspired by the Hitman formula.
