Alienware’s New Super Ultrawide OLED Gaming Monitor Might Just Earn Its (RGB) Stripes

Alienware has unveiled its latest gaming monitor, the AW3926QW, a 39-inch, 5K OLED super ultrawide display that introduces RGB stripe technology. This new display panel is said to deliver brighter images and sharper text compared to traditional OLED panels, without compromising on color accuracy or vividness. The RGB stripe technology works by vertically aligning the subpixels—red, green, and blue—that make up each pixel, effectively reducing color fringing that can be noticeable when viewing content up close. This innovation isn't exclusive to Alienware, as companies like Asus and MSI have also announced monitors utilizing the same RGB stripe technology.

Key Features of the AW3926QW

The AW3926QW is not just about the new panel tech—it also brings a host of high-end features to the table. It features a 1500R curved display with a resolution of 5,120x2,160, offering an immersive viewing experience. The monitor boasts a peak brightness of 1,300 nits, which is impressive for an OLED panel, and supports Dolby Vision for enhanced HDR content. It also includes G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro technologies to prevent screen-tearing and ensure smooth gameplay.

While the peak brightness is a standout feature, it's worth noting that the typical brightness is 300 nits, as per the specs provided. For those who can discern the difference, the AW3926QW can reach a 330Hz refresh rate at 1080p or 165Hz at its full 5K resolution. These figures place it ahead of the MSI MPG 491CQPX QD-OLED, which is currently IGN's favorite super ultrawide monitor.

In terms of connectivity, the AW3926QW comes with a built-in KVM switch, allowing users to control multiple connected computers with a single mouse and keyboard. The rear of the monitor offers a DisplayPort 2.1 port, two HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC support), a 10Gbps upstream USB-C port with 90W power output, and a 5Gbps USB-B upstream port and 5Gbps USB-A downstream port. Additional ports, including a 5Gbps USB-A and USB-C port, are located on the underside, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output.

Alienware’s New 34-Inch QD-OLED Monitor

Alongside the AW3926QW, Alienware has also announced the AW3426DW, a 34-inch QD-OLED gaming monitor with a 280Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 3,440x1,440. This is an upgrade from the previous AW3425DW, which was already IGN's favorite curved gaming monitor. The new model improves on several specs, including a higher peak brightness of 1,300 nits, an increased HDR TrueBlack rating to 500, and a tighter 1500R curve, making it even more immersive.

While Alienware hasn’t revealed the exact pricing for the AW3426DW, it is expected to be available in July, following the release of the previous model, which was priced at $800.

In addition to these new monitors, Alienware has also announced two other models: the AW3426DWM at $399.99 and the AW3226DM at $299.99. Both offer a 240Hz refresh rate and VA panels, with resolutions of 3,440x1,440 and 2,560x1,440, respectively. These models are also set to launch in July.
