Gamble With Your Friends has officially crossed the 1 million sales milestone, achieving this staggering figure just one week after its PC launch. The Sweden-based developer Tenstack announced the achievement on its Steam page, confirming that the casino-themed party game had surpassed 700,000 copies sold within its first five days.
"We're soooo happy and speechless by the positive reception our game has gotten so far," developer SkyBrave wrote in a post-launch update. "We would like to celebrate the fact that more than 1 million gamblers have entered Jeff Booth's Paradise since last Friday with you all!!!"
The team also addressed the technical hurdles that often accompany such a rapid influx of players. "We're aware of the bugs you've been reporting, and the team is hard at work addressing them as soon as possible!"
Embracing the 'Friendslop' Label
For years, the gaming community used the term "friendslop" derogatorily to describe a specific breed of low-budget, bite-sized co-op experiences. However, as titles like Gamble With Your Friends gained massive popularity, developers and players alike have begun to reclaim the term.
Tenstack co-founders Yiğit Doruk and Erik Levin de Verdier acknowledged this shift in an email exchange with IGN. They noted that while the term originally carried a negative connotation, its meaning has evolved as the genre has grown.
"Branding your game as 'friendslop' then becomes a way to tell gamers that your game will provide a couple of fun gaming sessions for them and their friends at a low price," Doruk and Verdier explained. "Which is nice, because there really is no entertainment that can give that much bang for the buck."
The founders highlighted the unique social value these games provide:
- Accessibility: Low price points invite larger groups to play together.
- Connection: These experiences allow friends, lovers, and families to gather, regardless of physical distance.
- Simplicity: Games built around one strong idea that don't overstay their welcome.
A Casino Crawler with a Twist
Launched on PC on May 1, 2026, Gamble With Your Friends is priced at $7.99. It is crucial to note that there is no real-money gambling in the game. Tenstack explicitly states that it does not condone gambling on its Steam page.
Instead, the game functions as an online co-op "casino crawler" where 1–6 players share a gamified bank account. The goal is to dig yourselves out of an early grave by gambling to pay back a vicious loan shark.
Key gameplay mechanics include:
- Daily Currency: Players earn additional currency each day.
- Cosmetics & Items: Currency can be used to buy cosmetic upgrades.
- Chaotic Interactions: Players can purchase items to interfere with friends, such as a gun to eliminate body parts or a time machine to undo risky bets.
This formula has resonated strongly in a market packed with similar co-op experiences. The term "friendslop" gained traction after the 2023 launch of Lethal Company and has since expanded to include titles like Peak, R.E.P.O., We Gotta Go, and Yapyap.
No Roadmap, Just Respect for Your Time
Despite the massive success, Tenstack is not treating Gamble With Your Friends as a live service. The team has no specific roadmap for future content, following in the footsteps of Peak developers Aggro Crab and Landfall by stating that any updates beyond launch should be seen as a bonus.
A recent update on May 8 added minor highlights, such as the ability to score on the basketball court with a friend's head, but the primary focus remains on bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
"Doruk and Verdier tell IGN Gamble With Your Friends is 'a finished game, not a live service,'" Tenstack clarified. "We're following in the footsteps of the Peak developers at Aggro Crab and Landfall by telling players that 'any updates beyond launch should be seen as a bonus.'"
The developers emphasized their philosophy on creating "digestible" games:
"A digestible game respects your money and time, it's built around one strong idea and doesn't overstay its welcome. Games you can finish in a couple of sessions without feeling stuffed."
Success Amidst Luck and Hard Work
When asked about the secret to the game's success, Tenstack was surprisingly humble. The co-founders suggested that even if they had "done the exact same game and taken the same actions," the title might have gone unnoticed in an alternate timeline.
"So we're thankful that our hard work as a team combined with an immense luck to make this game a success," they said. They also credited fantastic mentors and friends from the industry who supported and believed in them early on.
For Tenstack, this milestone is about sustainability rather than fame. "For us it was never about one game. It's about the ability to keep making games," the team stated. "We're genuinely humbled and floored by how well Gamble With Your Friends has been received, and incredibly happy that it means we get to keep doing this."
The studio plans to take lessons from this release to make more cool games in the future, proving that small collectives can still create impactful, joyful experiences for players worldwide.
