Marvel fans have experienced various titles over the years, but Arc System Works is officially entering the arena with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The developer is implementing unique mechanics to differentiate this title, such as a 4v4 team format and simplified controls. However, the true heartbeat of any fighting game is its playable cast, and the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls roster promises plenty of heavy hitters.
The Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Roster Revealed So Far
With a massive library of comic book legends at their disposal, choosing the right fighters was no small feat for the development team. Producer Takeshi Yamanకిaka recently shared his vision in a PS Blog post, explaining that the selection process followed specific design goals.
"There are so many amazing Marvel characters that it was quite a struggle to choose our roster, but we did have some criteria for the selection process," Yamanaka stated. "First and foremost, we wanted to include characters who we feel to be the 'face' of Marvel. At the same time, we also needed to select characters that would give us a balance of battle types and styles. Lastly, we wanted to sprinkle in a few surprises and leave room for characters who have never been playable in a fighting game before."
As it stands, the confirmed lineup features several icons alongside some unexpected newcomers. While staples like Captain America and Iron Man are guaranteed, players can also look forward to seeing Ms. Marvel and Robbie Reyes (Ghost Rider) in the mix. Currently, there are eight characters officially confirmed, though we expect this list to expand significantly via launch updates and future DLC.

Each fighter brings a distinct identity to the 4v4 combat system. For instance, the interdimensional tech expert Peni Parker will join forces with Spider-Man, alongside Star-Lord and Ms. Marvel. Much like her appearances in the Spider-Verse films, Peni utilizes the powerful SP//dr mech suit developed by her father.
The roster also features heavy hitters with unique resource management:
- Hulk: The Avengers' gamma-irradiated powerhouse relies on a Gamma Gauge. As he channels his rage, his strength and speed increase, allowing for devastating attacks once the gauge reaches its maximum level.
- Black Panther (Shuri): As the ruler of Wakanda, Shuri utilizes high-speed acrobatics. Her signature skill, Bast's Blessing, provides multi-directional dashing to facilitate a wild, offensive playstyle.
The Promoter: The Tournament Architect
Every great fighting game needs a driving force, and in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, that role is filled by The Promoter. An Elder of the Universe—a mysterious race of aliens existing since the dawn of reality—she acts as the catalyst for the conflict. The Promoter has orchestrated this high-stakes tournament, inviting heroes to battle to determine the ultimate fate of the planet.
While Arc System Works is known for legendary titles like Guilty Gear and Blazblue, this marks a massive opportunity to redefine the Marvel fighting genre. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is scheduled to launch for PC, PS5, and PS4 on August 6, 2026.
