Even though Baldur's Gate 3 released nearly three years ago, the fandom remains incredibly active. Players are constantly hungry for new stories involving their favorite characters. Fortunately, a new publishing program from Penguin Random House is about to deliver exactly that with several upcoming releases.

A Prequel Featuring Astarion

The standout announcement is Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion, a prequel novel arriving on September 29. Written by T. Kingfisher (Hemlock & Silver, Swordheart), the book was developed in collaboration with game writer Stephen Rooney. This partnership aims to ensure "authenticity within the game's world and lore," according to the official announcement.

The story explores Astarion’s time serving under Cazador Szarr before the events of the main game. For those who prefer listening, the audiobook will feature a special performance by Neil Newbon, the actor behind Astarion himself.
