I've always felt inventory space was the most valuable thing in Final Fantasy 14, and in the wake of patch 7.5, that's never been clearer for packrat players like me. I'm sure you know the type—those of us who can't stop shoving ceaseless amounts of garbage we know damn well we'll never use into precious, limited retainer storage.
My army of retainers can hardly keep more than a handful of free inventory slots available at any given time, but thanks to the 7.5 update, that's less of a problem. Now, I can at least unburden my one item mule that was drowning in thousands of multicolored dye pots I totally, most definitely, absolutely needed. You know, just in case.
That's right, Final Fantasy 14 has blessed the glamour and housing sickos again with another space-saving upgrade. You can finally consolidate all of those ten million dyes into just a few item slots by speaking to your local Calamity Salvager. Thank the Twelve.
Well, I say a few, but my collection didn't consolidate neatly into one stack of the new Standard Spectrum Dye. I exceeded that, thanks to my nasty what-if-I-need-this-later habit, and so I have five stacks of the standard color. That's still better than the 85 inventory slots they originally occupied, mind you, so I'm not complaining. If you're tight on inventory space, I recommend you beeline it to the nearest Calamity Salvager and do the same.
Find the Calamity Salvager and reclaim your inventory spaceIt's not a complicated process to trade in all of your old dye in FF14 and free up some space. Just speak to the Calamity Salvager in any of the three starting cities and select 'Dye Exchange' to consolidate your collection of pigments.
All it takes is a single dye from one of the three new consolidated items to access the dozens of color options you're used to. If you've collected a little of every color, then that's 105 inventory slots consolidated into three.

- Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11.4, Y:14.4)
- Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (X:12.6, Y:13.1)
- Standard Spectrum Dye - Obtained from any of the 85 common dyes that were crafted, bought, or rewarded through questing
- Wide Spectrum #1 Dye - Obtained from any of the nine dyes unlocked in special side content like Ishgardian Restoration, Island Sanctuary, or Cosmic Exploration
- Wide Spectrum #2 Dye - Restricted to the 11 dyes obtained in Dawntrail's special crafting and gathering content, Cosmic Exploration
You can no longer buy the vast majority of classic colors, so you won't find those high-value pigments like Dragoon Blue or Gunmetal Black in The Firmament or Island Sanctuary. Instead, FF14 has replaced 20 pots of dye with just two items, the Wide Spectrum #1 Dye and Wide Spectrum #2 Dye. You can sell both of the consolidated items too, and with the patch day rush they're quite pricey on my server.
Square EnixSquare EnixThe extra expensive colors like General-purpose Pure White are still their own thing; you can't combine them into a singular space saver. The same goes for cash shop dye, which is kind of a bummer since I pick up a few colors whenever there's a sale, but I'm too elated about the other billion inventory slots I'm saving to be fussed.
Combine the new dye system with all of the dungeon gear I can finally toss into the glamour pile, and I've got tons of extra space for hoarding more crap I don't need. I should probably use this as a chance to cut a few retainer slots from my monthly FF14 subscription, but I know myself too well to pretend like that's going to happen. All of those item mules glamoured to look like Estinien will be over encumbered with junk by next week.
