For some fans, this moment has been two decades in the making. Since a 2006 supplement for the Warhammer TTRPG hinted at beastmen with tiger heads in the distant nation of Ind, these creatures have lived mostly in the realm of rumor. Now, those rumors are a reality in Total War: Warhammer 3.
While it is surprising to see an entirely new species introduced this late in the game's lifecycle, the delivery method is even more unexpected. Bhashiva the White Tiger arrives via a new "character pack" format that costs only $5. Despite being a smaller release without the usual bells and whistles like new Regiments of Renown, these tiger warriors deliver a high-quality experience.
Mastering the Mercenary Campaign
Bhashiva is a mercenary general whose people are refugees from Ind, relocated to the Mountains of Mourn by the Cathayan ruler Zhao Ming. While her individual campaign mechanics might feel familiar—such as unit insignias that resemble Orc scrap upgrades—the way they intertwine creates a unique gameplay loop.
The core of Bhashiva's progression revolves around iron favor, a currency earned by completing tasks for Zhao Ming. This resource is vital for:
- Purchasing unit insignias.
- Hiring additional units from the Cathay roster.
- Increasing your total number of available armies.
While there are limits on units and armies, they rarely feel restrictive. You can supplement your tiger-heavy frontline with Cathayan crossbows and grand cannons to plug any gaps in your formation. Even when you aren't actively pursuing Zhao Ming’s missions, fighting his enemies provides a steady stream of iron favor.
The Tiger Court and Relic Mechanics
The most significant addition to this DLC is the Tiger Court, a mechanic where you dedicate relics to three distinct philosophical pillars to buff your troops. Each pillar offers a different strategic path:
- The Way of the Thousand Gods: Focuses on Ind's religion, providing physical resistance and melee defense.
- The Prophecy of the White Tiger: Honors Bhashiva’s lineage, granting the ability for tiger warrior reinforcements to appear in non-siege battles.
- The Teachings of Kamau: Venerates a legendary hero, making it the essential choice for increasing armor-piercing damage.
Relics are found in pre-set settlements across the map. You can reach them using trade caravans, though narratively, you act as a mercenary protector rather than a traditional merchant.
Navigating Immortal Empires with Bhashiva
Bhashiva’s campaign provides more structural direction than many typical Immortal Empires playthroughs. Starting at war with the Ogre Kingdoms, you are flanked by Grimgor's orcs to the north and Chaos Dwarfs to the east.
The campaign can be challenging due to the conflicting interests of your employer. While you might find yourself slaughtering orcs with ease, Zhao Ming will constantly pressure you to attack his allies, such as Greasus Goldtooth. Ignoring these tasks can make completing long-term objectives difficult, as mission targets may change or be captured by allies before you can reach them.
Managing your economy is also a delicate balancing act. While caravans are a primary way to acquire relics, they are highly vulnerable to daemon hordes and rival factions. Ultimately, the combination of new units, unique political maneuvering, and specialized buffs makes Bhashiva's tiger warriors an essential addition for any Warhammer 3 collector.
