Jetpack Cat and Ramattra Arrival Signals a New Era for Overwatch Stadium
Overwatch Stadium is already known as a lawless, alternate reality where the light of god does not touch. However, players must brace themselves, because this chaotic mode is about to get even more cursed with the arrival of two new additions: Ramattra and the dreaded Jetpack Cat. While I personally enjoy the chaos and ridiculous power scaling of Stadium, certain heroes already make gameplay a pain before they even access Powers and Items. Unfortunately, Jetpack Cat appears to qualify as one of those frustrating heroes. Although we haven't received the full list of her abilities yet, the Season 2 trailer shows her picking up an ulting Reaper and Orisa, creating a truly terrifying sight for anyone in the crosshairs.
The Nightmare of Coordinated Flyers and Sniper Builds
It is worth noting that Jetpack Cat's aerial strategy will only work if she can convince teammates to join her flying squad. Despite this potential hurdle, many players are not scared but rather eager to face the new flyer. One player confidently stated, "My sniper build is gonna demolish her," highlighting a specific counter-strategy already forming in the community. Others point out that anti-flyer items will become guaranteed picks when facing the cat in Stadium matches.
Ramattra, who arrives before Jetpack Cat at the beginning of the season, offers another layer of defense against aerial threats:
- Vortex Ability: Ramattra's signature vortex can bring flying heroes plummeting to the ground instantly.
- Potential Buffs: While his specific Powers remain unknown, it is likely he will receive a perk that buffs his vortex, similar to how abilities work in the main game.
This dynamic adds a new strategic layer where Ramattra becomes essential for countering flyers like Jetpack Cat before her full kit is even revealed.
Hitscan Dominance and the Future of Support Heroes
Adding another flyer to Stadium further cements the current hitscan meta. A well-placed Soldier: 76 or Ashe could make quick work of Jetpack Cat, provided they focus on her early in a fight. However, this reliance on hitscan damage means less love for heroes like Genji, who has struggled to keep up with the damage output compared to their ranged counterparts recently.
While there are plenty of ways to counter Jetpack Cat, more strategies will surely arise once she joins via the mid-season update. Despite the tactical possibilities, she clearly wasn't high on the priority list for many: "I'm glad we're getting more than one hero per season, but this was the absolute last hero I wanted in Stadium." Fans have been asking for Illari, Symmetra, and Lifeweaver forever. As a Support main, I would love to see what Team 4 can do with Baptiste or even Mizuki, but I am sure their time will come soon enough. Until then, the stadium remains a chaotic battlefield where preparation is key against the new aerial threat.
