How To Counter Jason In DBD With One Life-Saving Trick
Jason Voorhees has finally made his way into Dead by Daylight, just days after the DBD 10th anniversary stream that revealed a host of upcoming content. Since his debut, some players are claiming Jason is overpowered, and while Behaviour may consider a nerf in the future, for now, he’s giving players a serious challenge—especially with his popularity helping set a new concurrent player record for the game.
The Key to Countering Jason in DBD
While you won't know whether the killer is using our best Jason build or another preferred strategy, one thing is certain: his unique ability, Omnipresent Evil, is always in play. This ability allows Jason to warp around the map, appearing suddenly to jumpscare survivors. It's a fitting and movie-accurate addition to the DBD framework, but it has a major weakness you can exploit.
When Jason is warping around the map, he becomes invisible. However, he can detect survivors through their footsteps. If a survivor is staying still, Jason can see a red cloud, which indicates their location. This means that trying to repair generators, destroy totems, or simply staying put in the hopes that Jason doesn’t find you only makes it more likely that he will. Running or walking also leaves red footprints—similar to scratch marks—that disappear after a moment. These can give Jason enough information to track you down.
The simple yet effective solution that can significantly help you counter Jason is to crouch-walk. When you crouch-walk, you don’t leave these footprints, and since you’re not staying still, Jason won’t see a red cloud indicating your location. Crouch-walking essentially keeps you invisible during Jason’s use of Omnipresent Evil. As a bonus, if Jason respawns near you while crouch-walking, you won’t suffer the jumpscare effect, and you won’t activate his Killer Instinct ability. However, if you're close to another survivor who is being more reckless, it's wise to either get them to join you or move away from them before Jason reappears.
To make this tactic even more effective, pair it with the Urban Evasion perk from Nea Karlsson. This perk boosts your crouch-walking speed by up to 100%, reducing the strain of needing to travel while crouch-walking. Of course, you won’t know you’re facing Jason until you get into a trial, but given his popularity at launch, it’s a safe bet you’ll encounter him soon enough.
Tips for Surviving Jason’s Trial
- Always crouch-walk to avoid leaving footprints or red clouds.
- Stay close to other survivors, but be cautious of reckless players.
- Use perks like Urban Evasion to make crouch-walking more efficient.
- Avoid standing still, as it can reveal your position to Jason.
- If Jason respawns near you, maintain your crouch-walk to avoid the jumpscare.
