Crimson Desert Update 1.08.00: New Pets, Camp Features, and a Game-Changing Quality of Life Fix
Pearl Abyss has delivered another significant boost to Crimson Desert with the release of Update 1.08.00, continuing the studio’s rapid pace of post-launch content for its single-player open-world action adventure. The latest patch introduces a host of new gameplay mechanics, including a dedicated pond system for your camp, a Baby Wyvern pet, and powerful new ranged weaponry for the protagonist, Kliff.
While the headline features grab attention, the update also includes a subtle but highly anticipated quality-of-life improvement that is already being hailed by the community as a long-overdue necessity for bounty hunters.
The Silent Treatment for Outlaws
Before diving into the new pets and weaponry, there is one change that fundamentally improves the player experience: the ability to silence tied-up outlaws.
For many players, bounty hunting has been a source of frustration due to the constant, repetitive dialogue from captured targets. Whether they are complaining about harsh treatment, claiming they were framed, or offering sympathetic pleas, these targets refused to shut up during the long journey back to town. This audio clutter was so pervasive that it drove many players to abandon bounty contracts entirely.
With Update 1.08.00, you can now mute these captives, removing the distraction and making the bounty loop enjoyable once again. The community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive:
- "My prayers were answered."
- "There’s already a function for that—it’s called death."
- "I stopped doing bounties because of the constant noise! Looking forward to catching up."
While this may seem like a minor tweak, it addresses a major pain point for players engaging with the game’s law enforcement mechanics.
New Camp Features and Pets
The most visible additions to Crimson Desert involve expanding the player’s base and companionship options. Two key camps now feature a new Pond system, allowing for deeper immersion and resource management.
Pond Features:
- Location: Available at "Howling Hill" and "Pailune Camp."
- Construction: Players must complete a specific pond construction mission to unlock this feature.
- Fish Management: You can release fish directly from your inventory or via the pond management mode.
- Breeding Mechanics: Owning multiple fish of the same species will gradually increase their population, with growth rates varying by species.
- Legendary Fish: These unique specimens can always remain in the pond regardless of population caps or lifespan. They can no longer be sold, used, or discarded, and any previously lost legendary fish have been restored to player inventories.
In addition to aquatic life, the update introduces 20 species of small animals and the adorable Baby Wyvern as new pets. The Baby Wyvern is particularly notable for its potential future utility; players can register it as a pet now, with plans to allow it to grow into a mount in a future update. Furthermore, wild Wyverns can now be temporarily subdued and used as mounts immediately.
Combat and Equipment Overhaul
For combat enthusiasts, the update brings significant changes to Kliff’s arsenal and inventory management.
Kliff’s New Arsenal: Kliff can now wield muskets and shotguns, adding a powerful ranged dimension to his combat style. This aligns with the game’s evolving approach to mixing melee and gunplay.
Tool Slot Expansion: A major quality-of-life improvement is the addition of a dedicated tool slot. Previously, essential tools competed with secondary weapons for space in the quickslot menu. Now, the following tools can be equipped independently:
- Logging axe
- Mallet
- Shovel
- Broom
- Scythe
- Pickaxe
- Drill/Chainsaw
- Fan
This change frees up the secondary weapon slot, allowing for more versatile loadouts. Additionally, quickslots for masks and circlets have been moved to the 'armor' tab for better organization.
Other Notable Improvements
The patch also includes a wide array of refinements to the broader game systems:
- Refinement Speed: Players can now instantly refine equipment using a selected method without manually choosing materials.
- Crafting Missions: New "Mass Craft Paintings" and "Craft Fine Paintings" missions have been added, along with timber and stone rewards for logging and quarrying tasks.
- Abyss Gear: The "Infinite Arrows" Abyss gear has been improved to function for bullets and cannonballs as well.
- Visual and Control Tweaks:
- Barbier previews are now available via mouse hover for keyboard/mouse users.
- Re-Blockade events now occur at bandit camps and ruins.
- The puzzle experience at the "Disconnected Truth" Abyss has been enhanced.
- Griddle-cooked and pan-fried dishes are now separated into fish, meat, and vegetable variants.
- Fish traps have been improved for better catch rates.
- Certain 2D visual assets have been replaced to better align with the game’s art direction, including improved silhouettes for the Belkandor Plate Armor.
The pace of updates for Crimson Desert remains remarkable, with Pearl Abyss applying an MMO-style approach to post-launch support for a single-player title. This strategy is clearly working, keeping the community engaged and the game fresh months after its initial release.
