Two New Cuphead Games Revealed, And One Is A Pixel-Art Spin-Off

StudioMDHR has confirmed it's working on two new Cuphead games during Summer Game Fest 2026, marking a major expansion for the beloved franchise. One of these projects is a hand-animated title, though the studio hasn't shared more specifics or confirmed whether it will follow the same artistic style as the original game — which was heavily inspired by 1930s cartoons. The lack of detail has left fans speculating about the direction of this new venture.

The world-premiere trailer for these upcoming titles was accompanied by a special bulletin created by Toronto’s Stop Motion Department & Continue Agency, which has led to speculation that the hand-animated game might be a stop-motion project. While this is not confirmed, it adds an intriguing layer to the anticipated release.

Mighty Cuphead Adventure: A Retro-Revival Platformer

The second title, Mighty Cuphead Adventure, is being developed by a smaller team within StudioMDHR and is described as a retro-inspired platforming spin-off. The game is set to feature run-and-gun stages and boss fights with familiar characters from the Cuphead universe. A brief gameplay clip shown on a CRT TV gives a glimpse of the 8-bit aesthetic that the game will adopt.

Mighty Cuphead Adventure is confirmed for release on console and PC, but the studio has taken retro gaming a step further by confirming that the game is built using classic Assembly language. This development choice means that hardcore retro fans will have the opportunity to play the game on a Sega Master System physical cartridge, offering a tangible experience that harks back to the golden age of gaming.
