Following a series of photos showing the production in London, even more Elden Ring movie set leaks emerge online, including actual footage containing major spoilers. The recent wave of information has sent shockwaves through the community, as some clips appear to show significant plot points in motion.
New Elden Ring Movie Set Leaks Reveal Major Spoilers
The latest footage and photos were published by the X (formerly Twitter) account @UnBoxPHD, which appears to specialize in movie set leaks. These leaks, released this evening, include footage that looks like the execution of the Dung Eater. For fans of FromSoftware’s legendary game, the scene will feel strikingly familiar, as it appears lifted directly from the game's opening cinematic.
The leaks also feature what appears to be Queen Marika, played by Emma Laird. When combined with the Dung Eater execution and other set photos, there is a strong suggestion that the film depicts events occurring before the video game. Specifically, it seems to focus on the era before The Shattering—the devastating war between Queen Marika the Eternal's offspring and her demigod step-children that left the Lands Between in ruins.
Scouting the Lands Between: London Set Details
Earlier this week, Shortlist published several photos from the A24 production at the Greenwich Naval College in South London. The images reveal a medieval aesthetic and the presence of green screens, likely intended for visual effects like the Erdtree.
Key details discovered on the set include:
- Leyndell Streets: A box marked with this name suggests the Royal Capital, located at the foot of the Erdtree, will be featured.
- Stormveil: A box labeled "Stormveil" indicates that the stronghold of Godrick the Grafted is in production.
- Academy of Raya Lucaria: Props found on set suggest this iconic location is also being adapted.
While the location is not entirely secluded—the Greenwich Naval College is a short walk from Greenwich Station and open to the public—the leaks have been difficult to contain. Some fans have even noted that parts of the filming are taking place right on a public street.
A Massive $100 Million Ambition from A24
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Elden Ring movie carries a budget exceeding $100 million, with approximately 100 days of principal photography planned. This marks A24’s "largest and most ambitious" project to date, surpassing the budget of their previous hit, Civil War.
Director Alex Garland is at the helm of this massive production. Having previously directed Civil War, Garland has a proven track record with A24 for delivering high-scale, high-budget cinema.
The talented ensemble cast includes:
- Kit Connor (Warfare, Heartstopper)
- Ben Whishaw (The Day, This is Going to Hurt)
- Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War)
- Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga)
- Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms)
- Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina)
- Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes)
- Ruby Cruz (Bottoms)
- Nick Offerman (The Last of Us)
- John Hodgkinson (Napoleon)
- Jefferson Hall (House of the Dragon)
- Emma Laird (A Haunting in Venice)
- Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy)
From Game Mastermind to Director: Alex Garland's Vision
The film is being created "under the guidance" of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki and features a mythological story written by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. Reports from The New Yorker indicate that Garland completed an epic 160-page script draft, supplemented by 40 pages of imagery, before pitching the project directly to Miyazaki in Japan.
Garland is no stranger to the Lands Between; he is a self-proclaimed superfan. In a recent interview with IGN, he revealed he is currently on his seventh playthrough of the game. He even identified Malenia, Blade of Miquella, as his most difficult foe.
“It's Malenia who's the tough one,” Garland explained. “I've leveled up, I've got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again.” He noted that his strategy mirrors the way players approach Dark Souls: “It's not that you get better, it's more like monkeys and typewriters. You just keep doing it, and eventually, one day, they're dead.”
The Elden Ring movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 3, 2028.
