Vin Diesel Confirms Four Fast & Furious TV Shows Are Coming to Peacock
The Fast & Furious franchise is expanding beyond the big screen in a massive way. Franchise figurehead Vin Diesel announced during the NBC Universal upfront presentation that Peacock is launching four distinct shows set within the Fast & Furious universe. This announcement marks a significant shift for the high-octane action series, which has primarily relied on its film franchise for decades, with fans now awaiting the arrival of Fast Forever, its 11th mainline movie, in 2028.
“Peacock is launching four shows in the Fast and the Furious universe,” Diesel stated, confirming the streamer’s commitment to the IP.
The Current State of Development
While the scope of the expansion is ambitious, the timeline for these new series remains a bit of a mystery. Peacock has yet to specify exactly how one show might fit into the wide-reaching story of the franchise, let alone four. However, industry sources indicate that the situation is more nuanced than a full slate of immediate productions.
According to reports, the current development status is as follows:
- One Confirmed Series: Peacock has only officially set up the first show.
- Three Projects in Development: The remaining three titles are in various stages of development at Universal Television.
- No Release Dates or Casts: As of now, there are no announced release dates or casting details for any of the projects.
Creative Team and Diesel’s Vision
Vin Diesel, while not confirmed to act in any of the new series, is on board as an executive producer alongside Sam Vincent via their company, One Race. The creative writing helm for the pilot is being handled by Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy, One Tree Hill, The Vampire Diaries) and Wolfe Coleman (9-1-1: Lone Star), who previously collaborated on Shades of Blue.
The executive producing lineup also includes franchise stalwarts Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, as well as regulars Chris Morgan and Jeff Kirschenbaum.
Diesel explained the motivation behind this expansion during the upfront. “As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories,” he said. “And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.”
What’s Next for the Franchise?
The Fast & Furious saga began with Diesel in the original 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious, before evolving into a decades-long cinematic juggernaut known for its twists, turns, and rotating cast of A-list actors. The most recent installment, Fast X, premiered in 2023. The yearslong gap before the next film represents a notable change in pace from the franchise’s usual one-to-two-year release cycle.
As the Fast & Furious universe prepares to take over Peacock, fans can look forward to more animated content in the form of Fast & Furious: Spy Racers. Meanwhile, the focus remains on the upcoming Fast Forever, which is currently scheduled for a March 17, 2028, theatrical release.
