Gang Of Dragon Developer's Website Gets Whacked
The outlook for Gang of Dragon, the Yakuza spiritual successor from Toshihiro Nagoshi’s eponymous studio, is deteriorating rapidly. Following reports that publisher NetEase has pulled financial backing and the studio’s YouTube channel mysteriously vanishing before quietly reappearing in a "no worries, everything is fine" display, fans have been feeling an ever-creeping dread about the game's fate. Today, the title suffered yet another massive setback: as of this writing, Nagoshi Studio’s official website is completely offline.
A Disappearing Digital Presence
There could be innocuous explanations for this outage; websites go down for a variety of technical reasons. However, given the surrounding circumstances, it is difficult to assume everything is okay in Gang of Dragon-land. The situation is compounded by a total drying up of news about the game, aside from earlier reports of funding woes.
To date, there have been no reports of anyone swooping in to fund or acquire Nagoshi Studio in a valiant rescue. The signs point to Gang of Dragon and its developer vanishing without a trace, with only the Internet Archive left to preserve what remains.
The Future of Yakuza-Style Action
At least for fans of the genre, Stranger Than Heaven’s recent reveal offers something concrete with similar vibes to look forward to. As for Gang of Dragon, though, the only thing concrete about its fate seems to be cement shoes.
