Following the resolution of her legal battle with Disney, Gina Carano teases a potential Star Wars return after engaging in what she described as a "really nice" conversation with Lucasfilm leadership. The MMA fighter-turned-actor recently shared updates regarding her career trajectory during an interview with sports journalist Ariel Helwani.
A New Chapter Following the Disney Lawsuit Settlement
The path to reconciliation began after the 2025 settlement of Carano's lawsuit, which was funded in part by Elon Musk. After years of legal friction, a Disney representative told Variety that the company looks forward to "identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future."
This shift comes after a tumultuous period for the actress. In 2021, Lucasfilm removed Carano from the Star Wars universe following social media posts that compared the persecution of Jewish people in Nazi Germany to modern-day Republicans. At the time, the studio stated:
- Her posts were "abhorrent and unacceptable."
- There were "no plans" for her future employment with the company.
- The #FireGinaCarano campaign led to her abrupt departure from The Mandalorian.
Gina Carano Teases Potential Star Wars Return via Lucasfilm Meetings
Despite the previous fallout, Gina Carano teases a potential Star Wars return by revealing she has already re-established contact with the franchise's creative architects. During her interview, Carano confirmed she has held discussions with both Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.
Carano noted that the reconnection happened via Zoom shortly after the lawsuit concluded. "It was really nice," she said, adding that the atmosphere was surprisingly casual. "Dave Filoni is taking over CEO of Star Wars, and it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat. Jon Favreau was really funny. He got on the Zoom and was like, 'So, where did we leave off?'"
Looking Toward the Future of the Galaxy
While the specifics of these discussions remain private, the Gina Carano teases a potential Star Wars return that has fans speculating about her next role in the franchise. While a fourth season of The Mandalorian is unconfirmed, the upcoming film Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to premiere on May 22, 2026.
Outside of the galaxy far, far away, Carano remains active in both combat sports and independent film. She is currently preparing for a fight against Ronda Rousey on May 16. Her recent acting work includes leading Terror on the Prairie, a 2022 production from The Daily Wire.
