As someone who never played the 2001 original, the cult status surrounding the Gothic Remake has led me to keep my eyes on THQ's classic RPG ever since it was announced. Now that the Gothic Remake launch time and release date is almost here, we get to see how this eurojank RPG has been revitalised for a new age.
Returning to the Colony 25 years later to preview the remake, our very own Fraser Brown wrote that the visual glow-up doesn't hide the "scrappy eurojank RPG it always was". And that's not a bad thing.
When is the Gothic Remake unlock time?(Image credit: THQ Nordic)The Gothic Remake launches on Friday, June 5 for most regions, but it'll be June 6 for others, at the following times across the globe:
- US Pacific: 10 am PDT
- US Eastern: 1 pm EDT
- UK: 6 pm GMT
- Europe: 7 pm CEST
- Australia: 3 am AEST (June 6)
- New Zealand: 5 am NZST (June 6)
While you've still got to wait to enter the Valley of Mines, you can play the demo (called the Nyras Prologue) in the meantime. Weirdly, it's actually a standalone prologue to the Remake's story—no Nameless Hero in sight, even. Still, it'll give you a taste of what to expect from the full game.
Can you preload Gothic Remake? At least as of writing, no, you can't preload the Gothic Remake on any platform. However, given it's only 30-40 GB on PC (Steam suggests you have 60 GB free, though), that shouldn't be too much of an issue depending on your download speed.
The PC Gaming Show returns Sunday, June 7 at 12 pm PDT! Visit the show's Steam page to wishlist your most anticipated games and get more information on how to tune in for the big reveals.
