Why the GTA 6 Company Boss Believes AI Risks Are Overblown
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has once again shared his perspective on the future of artificial intelligence. Speaking at Semafor's World Economy 2026 event, the GTA 6 company boss addressed the growing "AI doomer" narrative with a more optimistic outlook. While acknowledging that technology can be misused, he believes the existential dread surrounding AI is largely exaggerated.
Balancing AI Potential and Malicious Use
Zelnick did not shy away from the darker side of technological advancement. He acknowledged that, much like any other powerful tool, AI can be used for evil purposes. However, he pushed back against the idea that these risks are an insurmountable threat to society.
During his presentation, Zelnick highlighted several key areas regarding the integration of AI in gaming:
- The automation of "mundane" and repetitive tasks.
- The optimization of existing production pipelines.
- The use of new digital tools to enhance software efficiency.
Streamlining Development at Rockstar and 2K
For major studios under the Take-Two umbrella, such as Rockstar Games and 2K, the focus remains on efficiency. Zelnick explained that developers are constantly seeking ways to optimize their workflows. He views AI as a natural evolution of the digital toolset already in use.
"Everything we create is created in computers using tools. So, new tools are really, really exciting for our business," Zelnick stated. By automating repetitive tasks, studios can focus more on high-level creative design.
Debunking Mass Unemployment Fears
The GTA 6 company boss also addressed the fear that AI will lead to mass unemployment within creative industries. He dismissed these concerns, even citing Elon Musk as evidence against the idea of total job replacement in these sectors.
Ultimately, Zelnick sees AI as an extension of the computer-driven process. Rather than a threat to livelihoods, he views it as another essential component of the modern developer's toolkit.
