Helldivers 2 Patch Brings Long-Awaited Upscaling Support and Latency-Reduction Features

As the battle for Managed Democracy continues, Arrowhead Game Studios has rolled out a major Helldivers 2 patch that brings long-awaited performance improvements. Patch 6.2.5 introduces upscaling technologies, latency-reduction features, and a host of optimizations aimed at making the gameplay experience smoother, especially during intense combat scenarios. The update was delayed slightly due to an unexpected submission bug, but it’s now live on all platforms.

New Upscaling and Performance Features

The most notable addition in this patch is the support for upscaling technologies, which include FSR 3.1.5, DLSS 4.5, and XeSS 3.0. These tools help improve visual fidelity and frame rates on a variety of hardware. For PS5 and PS5 Pro users, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support has been added, which can reduce screen tearing and provide a more consistent frame rate. Additionally, Variable Rate Shading (VRS) is now available on supported devices, allowing the GPU to focus on areas of the screen that require more detail while reducing work on less critical parts, thereby improving performance.

Another key feature is the addition of Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) on PC and PS5, which allows the game to adjust resolution dynamically based on performance needs. This change also bumped the resolution to 1440p on Xbox Series X and PS5 in the Performance preset. Furthermore, PS5 Power Saver mode now also runs at 1440p, offering a better balance between performance and visual quality.

For users with NVIDIA or AMD GPUs, the patch introduces NVIDIA Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2, both of which aim to reduce input latency and make gameplay feel more responsive.

Fixes and Optimizations

Patch 6.2.5 also includes a number of fixes and optimizations to improve overall performance and stability. One of the most requested fixes is the ability for Helldivers to manually climb small obstacles and ledges without relying on auto-climb. This should resolve issues with vaulting, which has been a long-standing problem for players.

Other changes include:

  • Fixes for multiple rendering issues across all platforms.
  • Improved performance and image quality.
  • Additional resolution options in display settings for monitors with varying resolution capabilities.
  • Enhanced performance for the high reflection setting.
  • Improved VRAM management on PC, which should benefit systems with limited memory.

The update also adds support for sending PSN system invites when inviting non-friends through the social menu’s recent-tab, provided both users are on PlayStation Network.

Warhammer 40,000 Crossover Coming Soon

In addition to the performance improvements, Helldivers 2 is set to receive a Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond later this year. This highly anticipated crossover will bring iconic Warhammer units into the game, fulfilling a long-standing request from fans. Mikael Eriksson, the game director, mentioned that the Warhammer 40,000 universe and Helldivers 2 “fit perfectly together,” and that Arrowhead is “full of die hard Warhammer fans.”
