Horse game klaxon: Palia is adding breedable, rideable horses and they look way more realistic than most MMO mounts

If you have been waiting for a true horse game experience within an MMO, it is time to pay attention to the arrival of Palia horses. The next expansion for the popular life sim is introducing much more than just a glorified "go faster" button. For players looking for deep equestrian mechanics, these new mounts promise a level of realism rarely seen in the genre.

The Royal Highlands Expansion

Launching as a free game update on May 12, The Royal Highlands expansion will significantly expand the world of Palia. This update introduces the largest "adventure zone" to date, providing players with a massive new area to explore.

Beyond the terrain, Singularity 6 is bringing several key features to the table:

  • A handsome new villager named Eshelon.
  • New furniture styles for home decoration.
  • Dedicated ranches for your home lot.
  • Three brand-new horse breeds.

Advanced Movement and Gaits for Palia Horses

Unlike many MMOs where mounts simply change the camera angle or traversal speed, Palia horses appear to feature much more complex movement. Based on Singularity 6's recent breakdown video, players can expect a speed meter that transitions through different gaits. While we are still verifying the exact accuracy, the footage shows at least a walk, canter, and gallop.

The implementation also includes specific traits that change how each mount handles. For instance, one breed known as the "Bulldozer" is designed to be faster but much more difficult to turn. This level of mechanical depth moves away from the standard "buff" style mounts seen in titles like Guild Wars 2 and moves closer to a true simulation.

Breeding, Traits, and New Breeds

The expansion goes beyond simple riding by introducing a robust ranching system. Once you have your horses back at your home plot, you can feed and pet them, but the real depth lies in the breeding mechanics. Players will be able to produce mounts with specific favored traits, ranging from realistic features like a chestnut coat or a cheerful disposition to more fantastical elements like sparkly visual effects and status effect buffs.

When the expansion launches, players can begin working with three distinct breeds:

  • Dawnspur
  • Phoenixfire Dawnspur
  • Akwinduu Thoroughbred (an Arabian-inspired breed)

During the reveal, Singularity 6 noted that they are "starting with horses," which strongly suggests that more mount types and breeds are on the horizon. In the meantime, players can celebrate a massive milestone in the Palia Path roadmap, including an in-game event marking 10 million total players starting today, as well as the upcoming "Sunkissed Summer" event.
