How to get the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2

The Repair Tool is arguably one of the most essential gadgets in Subnautica 2. While your handheld tools only require battery replacements, your base and vehicles like the Tadpole suffer structural damage. Without this device, you risk losing expensive builds or getting stranded with a broken vessel.

Fortunately, unlocking the blueprint is straightforward. You do not need to venture into dangerous deep-sea trenches immediately. By scanning just three fragments, which are located in safe, shallow waters near your starting point, you can craft this vital item early in the game.

Locating the Repair Tool Fragments

To unlock the blueprint, you must scan three distinct fragments. There are more than three available in the game, but the following locations are the most accessible and require minimal swimming distance from the Lifepod.

1. Chap’s Base (Southeast)

This fragment is the easiest to find because the game directs you to this location early on.

  • Location: Inside a small cave roughly 220 meters southeast and 40 meters deep from the Lifepod.
  • Specific Spot: Look for the entrance at the base of a stone pillar. Enter the cave and find the desk where Chap’s blackbox is kept. The fragment lies on the desk.

2. Shipwreck South of Lifepod (South)

A second shipwreck lies directly south of your starting point, across a deep gap.

  • Location: Approximately 300 meters away.
  • Specific Spot: Swim to the south side of the wreck and enter through a small entrance. Navigate through the hole in the floor to reach the lower level. The fragment is resting on the sofa in this room.

3. Shipwreck Northeast of Lifepod (Northeast)

This final fragment is located in a third wreck, which also serves as a useful early-game exploration spot.

  • Location: About 60 degrees northeast of the Lifepod, roughly 380 meters away.
  • Specific Spot: Swim underneath the wreck and enter through the hole in the floor. The fragment is on the ground next to a locked door. Note that this area also contains a Processor, Tadpole, and Bioreactor that you can scan.

Crafting the Repair Tool

Once you have scanned three fragments, the blueprint will automatically unlock. You can then craft the Repair Tool at a fully functional Fabricator using the following materials:

  • 1x Titanium Ingot
  • 1x Wiring Kit
  • 1x Basic Battery
  • 1x Sulfur

Ensure your Fabricator has power and resources before attempting to craft the item.

Essential Uses of the Repair Tool

While the name suggests its primary function, the Repair Tool has multiple critical applications in Subnautica 2.

Vehicle Maintenance

The most common use is repairing damaged vehicles. The Tadpole is particularly susceptible to damage from scraping against rocks or colliding with hostile fauna. Keeping the Repair Tool in your quick-use slot allows you to patch up hull integrity instantly without returning to base. This prevents minor scratches from becoming structural failures that leave you stranded.

Unlocking Sealed Doors

Beyond repairs, the tool can break open sealed doors in shipwrecks. For example, the shipwreck northeast of the Lifepod features a locked door near the third fragment. Using the Repair Tool on this door grants access to valuable loot, including the Rebreather blueprint. This allows you to extend your underwater exploration time significantly.

Base Defense and Repair

Your base will also accumulate damage over time. Whether from minor structural stress or hostile attacks, the Repair Tool allows you to maintain your habitat’s integrity. Regular repairs ensure that your power grid, oxygen systems, and storage units remain functional, securing your long-term survival in the ocean.
