How To Get To Bone Beach In Mina The Hollower
After fixing the third generator in Mina The Hollower, there is a decent chance that you may get a little lost in finding the way to the fourth one. It’s entirely possible to bypass this area and light up the other generators before reaching this one. After all, it wouldn’t be an open-world adventure without being able to go off the beaten track.
Eventually, though, you will need to light up the Bone Beach generator. The good news is that you don’t need any special Mina The Hollower Sidearms or Mina The Hollower Trinkets to get past either the obstacles to Sandfalls or those within. However, it can take a bit of time working out how everything functions, so we’ll give you a step-by-step guide to getting to Sandfalls, as well as tips on what to do once you’re there.
Head South to Get to Sandfalls
This is probably where most people will get stuck. If it helps, you’re not alone, as it took us a genuinely long time to work out how to get there, particularly as there is a red herring in Mourner’s Mile.
We’ve clipped a video to help you with the precise movement from the caves, but here are the directions from Ossex:
- Exit Ossex to the Southern Outskirts and head one screen south.
- About halfway down the next screen, turn east and head into the caves.
- Use the Puff Plants to leap across the gaps and head for the central area.
- Use your Burrow ability to shunt the Puff Plant east, then hop across.
- Leap onto the Puff Plants to the east and north until you reach the stairs.
- After climbing the stairs back outside, head south and defeat the enemies nearby.
- Burrow underground and launch the Puff Plant to the southwest of its default position.
- Leap onto it to reach the ledge to the south. (Lower the rope just in case you need to come back)
- Head east and down the stairs past the big mouse guard.
- In the next cave, you can use the dots on the floor to work out where the platforms are.
- Head east across the next screen, hop across to the northeast corner, and head north.
- In the next screen, there is a switch on the western side of the room. Kill the enemy beforehand, then hop across the dots and back across to exit this mini-dungeon.
- Use the Underlab to save your progress. The path to the northwest leads back to the Southern Outskirts, while the path south continues to the main Sandfall area.
How To Get to Bone Beach
Your goal in Sandfalls is to open up the central area, marked by the Plasma Vial lock. There are mine carts filled with explosive rocks that you need to destroy, but each one has a stack of TNT that you need to detonate. To make them explode, you need to burrow to grab bombs and plant them by the TNT stacks before they blow up in your hands; easier said than done, as they have short fuses. The good news is that, once you trigger any TNT chain reaction, it’ll be removed permanently.
Launching bombs at the TNT-filled carts will clear your path.
On the southern end of the area, lift the bomb. Throw it onto one of the moving platforms to your left just in time for it to discharge next to the TNT rather than fall down the hole. This will open the path to the tunnel underneath, leading to a Pig Soldier. Defeat him and move south. Kill the red frog in this spiky area and attack the grass to open the exit to the north. You can then use the bomb to clear a path and blow up the first of three minecarts.
A satisfying explosion will clear Mina's way.
Next, head northwest and jump across to the area with the two red snakes. Burrow under the tunnel to the left and hop across the gap and spikes to reach a ladder and bomb. You can use this bomb to blow up the four TNT carts to the south if you hop off the cliff to the right side and circle around. There is just enough time to make it to the four minecarts here.
Choose your bomb carefully, as some routes are impossible.
For the last one, head to the bomb to the southeast again, but this time leap across to the right side in the area with a large amount of moving quicksand. Use burrow jumps and throws to get the explosive device to the TNT on the southeast corner of the entire area. This will clear the way to the nearby bomb and Bone Beach Train Station. From here, pick up the bomb and leap off the ledge to the left. Head northwest until you find the final set of TNT you need to detonate to clear the path. You have a short time before it blows up, so we recommend jumping part of the way to save precious seconds.
The Major Miner is your last obstacle before reaching Bone Beach.
After opening the central area, you can head on in by spending three Plasma Vials. This leads to the boss of the Sandfalls: the Major Miner. His attacks include creating fault lines with his pickaxe, smashing the ground to throw rocks, spinning around the area, and having his cohorts throw pickaxes at you. They can also throw themselves, which is a big issue as the Major Miner has no problem cannibalizing his own subordinates to recover health. You can counter this by burrowing underneath them to pick them up and throw them at the boss for damage.
Once he is defeated, you’ll arrive at last at Bone Beach. However, the ambiguous level design doesn’t let up. This entire area is quite tricky if you don’t see the context clues, so if you need more assistance, you can read our guide on how to navigate the Stomach Mines to clear this area.
