Before we get into the depths of how to try for a baby in Paralives, let it be known--there is no shame in your depravity if you're following these steps and aren't bothered about whether a resulting baby appears or not. In fact, we've got you covered, as there are separate options for making babies and simply getting intimate with the love of your (Para) life. Having said that, there are more steps to actually managing to produce offspring in Paralives than in other games like The Sims that you might be used to.

How to make a baby in Paralives

To make a baby and start expanding your family, your Parafolk will not necessarily need to be in a relationship. However, if you want them to be, you'll need to select plenty of flirty interactions when your Paras are talking together. As the relationship strengthens, you'll get options to add points to the "Romantic Interest" statistic. Eventually, one Para can ask the other whether they'd like to be in a relationship or not. If the chance of success percentage is high enough, go for it.

Two Paras do not need to be in a relationship to be coparents.

However, as long as you have a strong enough relationship, even as friends, you can discuss having babies. Asking one Para whether they'd like to have children in the future and being successful on the wheel spin will determine whether or not you're able to begin trying for a baby. This will also award the relationship label of "potential coparent."

If you fail on the first try, don't worry, as you can ask the question again in the future when the chance of success is greater.

If your romantic partner agrees that they'd like to have children in the future, you will see a message that the two can begin trying for a baby whenever they'd like. However, this won't pop up in the conversation options. Instead, click and drag to select both Parafolk, and then click on the bed. If you're not bothered about children and just want to get it on, choose the "get intimate" option. If you do want children, then select the option to try for a baby. If you're successful, within a day or so you'll see an alert that your Para is pregnant, and that you should prepare the baby's room.

If you don't want to wait a day to find out if your Para is expecting, you can click on any toilet after trying for a baby to take a pregnancy test. Similarly, if you don't want to wait until birth to find out the gender of your baby, you can find out early. Just take your Para to the nearest health center and ask for a scan to reveal the surprise. Remember that you don't need to run across town to get there--clicking on a bus stop costs just 3 Paradimes and will show you the bus route to get you there safely. In your condition, walking is not worth the risk.

Your Para will be in significant pain during labor. How long is pregnancy in Paralives?

Using the Paralives cheats, you could just force your pregnant Para to give birth there and then, but everyone likes a little adjustment time. If you'd prefer to do it the natural way, you can expect the baby to be born within 24 in-game hours.

Labor tends to last between two and four hours, after which point you can expect the baby, or babies if you're unlucky enough to have triplets like my Paras did, to simply drop on the floor. The miracle of birth.

Don't be surprised if your baby Paras just roll around on the floor for a bit. How does adoption work in Paralives?

Adoption is a one-way street in Paralives so far, but remember that the game is in early access and so features may be added later on. You can adopt a baby into the family, but you cannot yet put a baby up for adoption. This is particularly frustrating if you're blessed with three bundles of joy at once, since you're sort of forced to change your Parafolks' entire lives to revolve around them. Hey, it is a life sim, after all!

To adopt a baby into your family, send your Para to the nearest health center and enquire about adoption.

As babies age up, you can upgrade their personalities. How to care for babies and toddlers in Paralives

Babies and toddlers are finicky little things in Paralives, and you might be a bit stumped on how to properly care for them. As babies, you will need to be holding them before you can interact with them to feed them. It goes without saying that only the biological mother can breastfeed her new infant(s), but the father has the option of bottle feeding them, too.

To change their diapers though, you will need to place them in a crib first, or on the floor, and then interact with the baby to change them. You won't see this option if you're just holding them.

When they age up into toddlers, they will no longer be able to sleep in a crib and must move up into a toddler bed. This is not denoted in the catalog, instead you will have to go into the kids' section of the catalog and find the only bed in there. This is the only option for toddlers at the moment, but since Paralives is in early access, more options could be added at a later date.

Toddlers, similarly, cannot properly feed themselves. They can pick up snacks, but the best option is to have a teenager or older Para pick them up and put them in a highchair. Note that if you simply press to put them in their highchair without selecting the "feed in highchair" option, you will have to take them out of it and reselect the feeding option. There is not currently an option to feed them when they are already sat in the highchair.
