The Riven Tides update for Arc Raiders has introduced an array of new arcs, patches, and gadgets to the extraction shooter. While most changes have been welcomed by the community, players are currently struggling to master one specific addition: the powered descender.

This new epic gadget acts as a parachute for high-altitude jumps. Equipped with dual thrusters, it is designed to soften your impact during falls, allowing for more daring maneuvers. However, mastering the powered descender has proven more difficult than many expected.

A Fiery Failure in Dam Battlegrounds

The difficulty isn't just theoretical; players are already meeting grim ends. On r/ArcRaiders, player lologugus shared an 11-second clip that perfectly illustrates the frustration. After jumping from the dam in Dam Battlegrounds, they attempted to deploy the gadget, only to accidentally set themselves on fire and die upon impact.

"I am extremely disappointed," lologugus posted alongside the footage of their unfortunate demise. It was not exactly a smooth landing.

Understanding the Powered Descender Mechanics

The issue isn't necessarily that the gadget is broken, but rather that players are misunderstanding its limitations. While many clips show successful use, there is a clear ceiling to how much height it can safely manage. To avoid a "fiery death," keep these critical factors in mind:

  • Reduced Speed, Not Negated Gravity: The gadget reduces fall speed, but it does not completely negate the descent.
  • Height Limits: Dropping from extreme heights, such as the Spaceport's tower, may still result in lethal impact speeds.
  • Charge Time: There is a brief delay before the thrusters reach full strength.
  • Fuel Consumption: The device uses fuel and will not run indefinitely.

How to Find the Blueprint

Before you can utilize this tool to survive, you have to find it first. The powered descender blueprint can be discovered within valuable lockers scattered across the Riven Tides map.

You will need to move quickly, as these lockers are often picked clean almost as soon as a match begins. If you play your cards right, you might just get lucky and find the gear needed to master the skies.
