I think I broke Vampire Crawlers. And I don't mean that in the "exaggerating just a little bit" way. While the game is all about creating crazy builds with stacking stat buffs and strong synergies, I believe I’ve finally cracked the code with a Vampire Crawlers build that basically plays itself.

The Ultimate Mortaccio Vampire Crawlers Build

This strategy relies on one funny little skeleton guy: Mortaccio. You can unlock this skeletal Crawler by slaying a total of 444 skeletons. He starts your run with a set of Bone cards and a single armor card, boosting your Amount stat every time a blue card is active.

The game plan is simple: overwhelm opponents with a barrage of Bones by padding your Amount stat whenever possible. To make Mortaccio unkillable, you should play plenty of armor cards and equip the Your Shield My Liege Arcana, which allows armor to persist between turns.

Essential Cards and Synergies

To keep this build running smoothly, your primary goal at the start of a run is securing a Spellbinder card. These cards cost 0 Mana and increase your Duration by 2. Keeping Mortaccio active is vital, so look for duration-boosting gems to ensure he never leaves the field.

To maximize your damage output, focus on these key components:

  • Golden Armor: Combos with Bones to significantly strengthen your defenses.
  • Duplicator cards: These combo with Bones to create a massive "cascade of calcium."
  • Holy Wand: A reliable 2-Mana option for single-target boss encounters.
  • Clover cards: Provides repeated Luck buffs to help you find stronger gems.

Maximising Damage with Gems and Upgrades

As you descend into deeper dungeon floors, you will need specific upgrades to survive. Seek out gems that increase Might, Area, and Amount to buff your Bones. If you can find a Reverse Combo gem, apply it to Golden Armor so your Bone cards benefit from combo bonuses and deal extra damage.

For pure destruction, the best overall gems for this setup are Decimate and Triple Damage. While Triple Damage is straightforward, Decimate makes a card deal a fixed 10% of the enemy's HP as damage.

Finally, round out your deck with a Bracer to increase hand size, along with more blue armor or Pummarola cards to trigger Mortaccio's skill. There may be another build out there that is even better, but for now, I'm too bone-headed to try anything else.
