We all have that specific group of friends we actively avoid playing Minecraft with. It isn't because they aren't fun; it's because you know the second you leave your chests or base unattended, everything will be wrecked. While a little chaos can be hilarious, losing an inventory full of valuables to a well-placed prank is enough to make anyone take a break from the game.

From elaborate piston traps to classic TNT, the creative limits for griefing friends in Minecraft are virtually nonexistent. However, the upcoming Chaos Cubed update is about to introduce a brand-new way to cause mayhem: geysers.

The Chaos of Minecraft Geysers

The mechanics behind these new features are deceptively simple. By combining a magma block, a potent sulphur block, and a small pool of water, players can craft a geyser capable of creating a massive blast of water. This blast is powerful enough to send an unsuspecting player hurtling into the air.

While this sounds like a recipe for disaster in multiplayer, the utility of geysers isn't just about pranks. There are several legitimate uses for this new mechanic:

  • Elytra Launch Pads: Creating high-speed launch points to take flight instantly.
  • Mob Management: Using the water blast to quickly clear mobs away from your base.
  • Redstone Engineering: Integrating pressure and propulsion into elaborate machines.

Preparing for the Chaos Cubed Update

Despite the potential utility, there is a looming sense of dread regarding how friends will use these geysers. It is almost inevitable that you will step out of your home after hours of preparing for an expedition, only to be launched into the stratosphere while hearing your friends cackle through their microphones.

The creative possibilities for complex machinery are endless, and there will undoubtedly be plenty of elaborate builds that I will attempt to recreate—only to fail miserably and lose all my XP in the process. But that is ultimately part of the fun that comes with new Minecraft features.

If you don't want to wait for the official release to see what these geysers can do, you don't have to. All features from the Chaos Cubed update, including the geysers, are currently available for testing in both Java and Bedrock editions. Perhaps the only way to survive is to start mastering the geyser before your friends do; it might be the only way to avoid meeting a sudden, airborne demise.
