Seth MacFarlane has hinted that a Ted Season 3 or even a new feature film is entirely possible, provided Peacock is willing to open its wallet. Speaking at a recent Deadline Contenders TV panel, the Family Guy creator addressed the uncertain future of his raunchy comedy franchise. While nothing is officially greenlit yet, MacFearing noted that the crew behind the project would be eager to return.
The Financial Hurdles for Ted Season 3
MacFarlane famously stated that the continuation of the series depends on Peacock utilizing its "vast amounts of big Scrooge McDuck money." He believes a follow-up is possible, whether through Ted Season 3 or a direct-to-streaming movie featuring the current cast.
"I think all of us, in some form or another, whether it's a Season 3 of Ted or a direct-to-Peacock feature with this cast, is something I think we’d all be up for. It’s all on the table," MacFarlane said.
Despite the massive popularity of the series, a concrete plan for more content remains elusive. MacFarlane previously told The Wrap that there is currently "no plan" to move forward, citing high production costs and narrative complexities.
He noted that showrunners Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan, along with himself, "kind of painted ourselves into a corner" following the Season 2 finale. While he believes "there's always a way to do anything," additional "narrative acrobatics" might be required to continue the story.
The Evolution of the Ted Franchise
The franchise has seen significant evolution since its inception, moving from big-screen hits to streaming success. The timeline includes:
- 2012: The original live-action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis.
- 2015: A sequel featuring Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried.
- 2024: The Peacock prequel series, starring Max Burkholder as a younger version of the character.
The streaming numbers prove there is a massive audience for these characters. Season 1 was a record-breaking hit, and Season 2 managed to rack up more than 1.2 billion minutes viewed in the month following its March 2026 premiere.
Upcoming Animated Spin-off
While waiting on live-action updates, MacFarlane is moving forward with an announced animated spinoff. This project will feature Wahlberg, Seyfried, and MacFarlane himself, picking up where the sequel left off.
MacFarlane praised the work of Walsh and Corrigan, noting how joyful it has been to watch the franchise take shape under their stewardship. "They’ve just done a phenomenal job," he added during the panel.
