Seán McLoughlin, better known to millions as JackSepticEye, is being incredibly cautious about revealing any specific details regarding his upcoming production. During a recent chat at the 2026 Gaming BAFTA awards, JackSepticEye explains role on the Bloodborne movie and why he is committed to protecting the source material's legacy.

Sony Pictures recently announced an R-rated animated feature film based on the FromSoftware masterpiece, Bloodborne. While the plot remains a mystery, the film is expected to follow a hunter battling beasts within the iconic city of Yharnam.

The production involves a heavy-hitting lineup of creators and studios:

  • Sony Pictures
  • PlayStation Productions
  • Lyrical Animation
  • JackSepticEye (Producer)
  • Lyrical Media (Co-financer)

How JackSepticEye Explains Role on the Bloodborne Movie

For many, his involvement in the project was a surprise, but McLoughlin’s passion for the medium is deep-rooted. He revealed that his love for animation began with classics like Dragon Ball, Spider-Man, and the Batman animated series.

"I'd go all the way back to watching Spider-Man and the Batman animated show when I was a kid and just falling in love with those things," he told IGN. He noted that the medium is currently in its "coolest place" due to the evolution of anime.

When discussing his specific responsibilities, JackSepticEye explains role on the Bloodborne movie as being a guardian of the game's essence. His primary goal is to ensure the moodboard stays true to the original experience.

"Anything that gets us as close to the mood and feel of the game," he stated, adding that "the atmosphere of those games is just second to none." He emphasized that he has no intention of changing too many elements or disrupting the established tone.

Addressing Fan Skepticism and Memes

While much of the community is excited, some fans have reacted with skepticism. McLoughlin addressed the viral memes featuring him "ruining" the franchise with a sense of humor.

"I've seen all the memes and they’re hilarious," he said. He noted that the backlash actually demonstrates how deeply passionate the Bloodborne community is about the IP.

He was quick to clarify his motivations, stating that his approach is that of a fan rather than a businessman. "I'm approaching it as a fan of it, not as like I/I want to make a thing to make money," he insisted.

Future Ambitions and Lost Opportunities

The YouTuber’s recent success includes appearing in Iron Lung, a film from fellow creator Markiplier that earned $21.5 million globally. When asked if Mark offered any production advice, McLoughlin admitted, "No. Mark doesn't really reach out to people that often. He kinda stays in his own world."

Looking ahead, the scale of his ambitions is growing. As JackSepticEye explains role on the Bloodborne movie is just one piece of a larger puzzle involving future game adaptations. He plans to collaborate with Alanah Pearce, who recently announced Charred Pictures.

However, not every project has been easy to secure. McLoughlin revealed that an attempt to adapt Soma fell through because the timelines did not align with the developer's new release schedule. Despite the setback, he remains eager to bring more complex gaming narratives to the screen.
